www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/newsPage.cgi?news08822JANUARY COMES IN LIKE A LAMB Adele Again, as Veteran Christian David Crowder Band, Snow Patrol Top Debuts January 11, 2012 It’s that time again, the lull between the end of the holidays and the start of Grammy season. With Tim McGraw the next big release on Jan 24, Adele will hold serve next week, her 16th at #1 and 46th on the chart. Be thankful for small favors. Last year at this time, Taylor Swift set a new low for a #1 album with a total of 52k, the first in a string of record lows during the month. Waco, TX-based sixsteprecords/Sparrow/EMI “six-piece modern worship group” David Crowder Band will score the week's top debut and very likely be the #2 album with Give Us Rest (A Requiem Mass in C [The Happiest of All Keys]),” which is slated to do between 40-45k. We kid you not. The band’s been around since the late ‘90s and this is their 11th album in that time. Crowder started the group while attending Baylor University when he realized over half the students at the Christian college weren’t attending church. He became the Pastor of worship for a church he started at the school, and began writing songs to incorporate into the service. The band’s album artwork contains hidden references to their website promoting their sect…What’s next? Backwards-masked messages to Our Lord on the digital files? Grammy-winning, Glasgow-based Irish-Scottish multi-platinum group Snow Patrol make their Island/IDJ debut with Fallen Empires, the band’s sixth studio album, which is looking in the 27-30k range. The disc features collaborations with Queens of the Stone Age guitarist Troy van Leeuwen, R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe and promising new L.A., singer/songwriter Lissie. The band just performed on Letterman last Monday. Veteran RCA Dirty South rapper Yo Gotti, by way of Memphis, releases Live from the Kitchen, his first major label release after putting out four independent albums and a slew of mixtapes since 2000. Based on one-day sales from those retailers who haven’t paved paradise and put up a parking lot, it looks to be on target for between 12-15k in its first week. Several singles have been released over the past few years, including “Single,” while the next track, “All About Me,” features Drake. Album sales were down 25% vs. last week, up 7% vs. same week last year and up 7% year to date. Track sales were down 29% vs. last week, up 10% vs. same week last year and up 10% year to date. TEA (Track Equivalent Album) sales were down 27% vs. last week, up 8% vs. same week last year and up 8% year to date.

Thought Snow Patrol could do slightly better. So did I. I was under the impression that they had a pretty loyal fanbase. Is the January release date hurting them, or do they just not have that big a following?

I always thought they were somewhat of a one-hit-wonder over here.

They are, Only Chasing Cars managed a top 40 peak on the Hot 100. This album might be their highest peaking one anyways, as the highest they've gone is #9.

Snow Patrol, David Crowder Band Aiming High on Billboard 200 Chart
January 11, 2012 By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles
While it seems safe to say that Adele's "21" will hang in at No. 1 for a sweet 16th week on the Billboard 200 chart next week, we could see high debuts from both David Crowder Band and Snow Patrol.
Sources say the former's "Give Us Rest" may sell upwards of 30,000 to 40,000 by week's end on Sunday, Jan. 15. It could arrive in the top five on the tally, notching the act's best rank ever. Meanwhile, Snow Patrol's new "Fallen Empires" is on course to launch with perhaps 30,000.
For David Crowder Band, it could be a bittersweet debut, as the act played its final show at the Passion 2012 conference on Jan. 2 in Atlanta. The act announced its impending disbandment last summer, stating that its new album and recently completed tour would be its last.
The act's last full-length release, 2009's "Church Music," debuted and peaked at No. 11 with 36,000 copies sold in its first week according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Snow Patrol's last set, "A Hundred Million Suns," topped out where it started -- at No. 9 -- in 2008 off a 48,000 launch.

It's not Snow Patrol's fault they only had "one hit" that went top 10 here... radio barely supported anything else they released. If they had been given the same opportunity as say, I dunno... RihannaKatyBritneyLadyetcetcetc who knows, maybe they'd have had better exposure to their songs.
What did they win a Grammy for?

It's not radio's fault that Snow Patrol isn't making the type of music that it's consumers want to hear either.

They had a few singles after Chasing Cars that were radio friendly that US radio ignored.

"Chasing Cars" is one of my all time favorite songs. I haven't heard anything from this album yet. I'll probably check it out. Snow Patrol can typically be counted on to produce solid albums.
Adele is, of course, still doing her thing at the top of the charts.

This time last year, the #1 album sold a paltry 44k and it took 25k to make the Top 10. This year, #1 may hit six digits, but the rest of the chart appears to be much weaker with as low as 18k likely for the #10 spot. In what's beginning to sound like a broken record, Adele logs a 16th at the top, this week tying the Titanic soundtrack for the most weeks at #1 since 1998. The next milestone, and one she will likely catch, is the 20 weeks set by The Bodyguard soundtrack in 1992-’93. Far off in the distance, however, is the West Side Story soundtrack, which held the #1 spot for more than any other album, an unbelievable 54 weeks in 1962-’63 and a record that will likely never be surpassed. It should be noted that all four of these titles are distributed by Sony Music. Here's how it looks headed into the weekend:
Adele (XL/Columbia) 95-105k *David Crowder Band (Six Steps) 40-45k The Black Keys (Nonesuch) 30-35k Drake (YM/CM/Universal Republic) 30-35k *Snow Patrol (Island/IDJ) 27-30k Young Jeezy (Def Jam/IDJ) 24-27k Rihanna (Def Jam/IDJ) 22-25k Nickelback (Roadrunner) 18-21k Now 40 (Capitol/EMI) 18-21k Coldplay (Capitol/EMI) 18-21k Florence + the Machine (Universal Republic) 17-20k Kelly Clarkson (RCA) 15-18k Lady Antebellum (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 15-18k LMFAO (Interscope) 15-18k Toby Keith (Show Dog) 15-18k

As expected, Adele continues her slow descent. Until the Grammy's, that is.

Bodyguard Soundtrack came out after Some Gave All though, so BG is next as "last album to do so-and-so many weeks at #1."
18-21k for #10? What's the record low for a Top 10 album again?

Called Out in the Dark is amazing This. Hundred times better than Chasing. :) IMO That's a bit too much. This Isn't Everything You are is better in my opinion. Run is still their best track. I'm a bit underwhelmed by the Fallen Empires estimate though. :(

But that doesn't mean the overall sales are struggling that much.. The top 30 seems quite strong at the moment.

Reggae Band Rebelution Aiming for Best Chart Week Everwww.billboard.com/news#/column/chartbeat/reggae-band-rebelution-aiming-for-best-chart-1005879752.storyAfter four top 10 albums on the Reggae chart, Rebelution could be on its way to its first top 20 set (maybe even top 10) on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart. On Nielsen SoundScan's Building chart (below), the act's just-released album "Peace of Mind" is No. 9 -- a great indicator for where it could end up on the Billboard 200 chart next week. The tally is a precursor to the final Billboard 200 ranking -- reflecting the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week (ending Sunday, Jan. 15) as reported by six major merchants. While Rebelution has had success on the Reggae chart, they've never been higher than No. 54 on the Billboard 200, when "Bright Side of Life" debuted and peaked at No. 54 on the chart dated Aug. 22, 2009. Elsewhere on the Building chart, Adele's "21" is at No. 1 while new albums from David Crowder Band ("Give Us Rest") and Snow Patrol ("Fallen Empires") appear at Nos. 2 and 3. The two albums are aiming to sell around 35,000-40,000 and 30,000 each, respectively. The Black Keys' "El Camino" is No. 4, Drake's "Take Care" is No. 5 and Young Jeezy's "T M:103 Hustlerz Ambition" is No. 6. Rihanna's "Talk That Talk" (No. 7), Nickelback's "Here and Now" (No. 8) and Skrillex's "Bangarang" (No. 10) round out the rest of the Building chart's top 10. The new Billboard 200 chart's top 10 will be revealed on the morning of Wednesday, Jan. 18. Nielsen SoundScan Building Chart Rank LW BB 200 Artist Title 1 1 Adele "21" 2 NEW David Crowder Band "Give Us Rest" 3 NEW Snow Patrol "Fallen Empires" 4 3 The Black Keys "El Camino" 5 2 Drake "Take Care" 6 4 Young Jeezy "T M:103 Hustlerz Ambition" 7 6 Rihanna "Talk That Talk" 8 11 Nickelback "Here and Now" 9 NEW Rebelution "Peace of Mind" 10 14 Skrillex "Bangarang" The Building Chart reflects the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week (which ends Sunday) as reported by six major merchants: iTunes, Trans World Entertainment, Best Buy, Starbucks, Target and Anderson Merchandisers. Billboard estimates that they make up about 85% of all U.S. album sales.

I think Nickelback sells mostly to people that are familiar with their older stuff that also don't typically listen to the radio. My guess would be a 35+ demographic who keep a select number of CDs in their cars and rarely listen to the radio other than maybe classic rock or country stations. For them, Nickelback is a dependable purchase for the same reasons Michael Bublé is dependable for his audience.

This and they are probably the lone rock band getting an end aisle placement at Walmart. That Buble christmas album didn't sell like gangbusters on its own. My Walmart had a big display in the middle of a main aisle for the album. People picked it up as they went by as a stocking stuffer. I got a copy for a cousin.
