This is utter crap, honestly. It's forcing country artists to cross over in order to be successful. However, if we're talking about Carrie recording something with Calvin Harris, count me in.

Carrie is a country singer, though, and wants to remain as such (and so do I for her). It's ridiculous to think that in order to get a country #1 she'll have to start remixing and pushing for pop success. I'd at least be able to stomach the new chart if it included country AirPlay only instead of all formats of AirPlay. I still think it's stupid, though.
So is the new Country Songs chart the official chart, or will they be looking more at the Country Airplay chart instead?

I hope she never goes anywhere near Calvin Harris or any of those Europop dance producers. She worked well with Max ("Quitter" is one of her best songs) and I can see her with Kurstin but save those producers for less vocally-talented singers.

I think the Airplay Chart will become more popular, but the official chart will remain "official", unfortunately.

Any chance that fan and industry backlash against this new system will result in Billboard going back to the old system?

Any chance that fan and industry backlash against this new system will result in Billboard going back to the old system? Doubt it... Although I would like to know the names of the idiot(s) who came up with this horribly inefficient formula. There is no longer a purpose of having genre specific charts... Just mesh every fucking thing and call it a day.

In terms of Airplay, yes, but on the new official chart, no. Taylor will remain there through AT LEAST the end of the year.

Right. It looks as if "Blown Away" will not hit #1 on the official Billboard country chart.

"Blown Away" will hit #1 on Billboard, but on the Airplay chart only. Unless a miracle happens, Taylor will remain #1 on Hot Country Songs for the foreseeable future thanks to her pop airplay and digital sales.

I don't even know what to think. How is the label going to tackle this new methodology? Do they just 'settle' for #1s on the Country Airplay chart, a chart which is essentially irrelevant at this point? Do they take a more aggressive stance on pushing her music to Pop radio? I guess it really doesn't matter too much considering she's still going to be one of the most played artists at country radio and her album sales are still going to be fantastic. But she was making history w/ her collection of #1s on Hot Country Songs and now that's...dead. It's bullshit. :sigh: Can you imagine her with Calvin?? Forreal, her voice may soar on a dance track tho. I'm ready.

I'm a Taylor fanatic, and I will tell you this new system is pretty crappy. Not only does it make Country charts more screwy than usual, it ruins the Urban/R&B charts too. Whoever decided that this was a good idea should be fired.

If radio stations start getting plenty of calls regarding the change, I'm thinking they might just go back to where things were. You know, back when this problem never exsisted.

I will still consider the Hot Country Song Airplay chart to be the main chart. I do want to see Carrie Underwood collect another #1. I will not consider a chart that uses other forms of data to determine what the #1 song of the week is.

I hope she doesn't cancel herself out by submitting two songs for each of those categories. Hopefully Blown Away gets enough votes. It'd be incredible to see her get an all-genre nod, although I won't hold my breath.

Congrats to another Country airplay #1 with 'Blown Away'. Looking at the current chart, 'Blown' could hold the #1 spot for at least 3 weeks with no song coming up within striking distance of #1 !
