Slipknot's Unsainted just went Gold in the US. So while did this only scrape the top 10 on active while we let Unforgettable become one of the biggest hits of the year?

Tommy Lee is up to his weird music phase again. I am not digging his new hybrid sound ,and he has too many damn cameos in the songs. The funny thing I doubt any of you would dig it either so why lose his die hard metal fans(like me) to gain new pop fans who just won't care? He should go join up with Frontiers Records, make a decent hard rock album , and stop dicking around. The Struts on the other hand made a record just for me. Every song is glamourized and glitterized just the way I like them. They cover a Kiss song , but failed to cover "Strutter". What a missed opportunity.

As we all know, the chart year is drawing to a close (supposedly today), and I'd figure now it's time to share the stuff that were less successful on the charts. Namely, the top 50 extras and new and active extras that did not make the top 50/Billboard. The criteria is that it must have accumulated a total of at least 500 spins for alt, 150 for active, and 400 for AAA. A + for new and active extras denotes the song could still enter the top 50 at some point. Though I have excluded songs that made the top 50 that could still be rising. (E.g. Lost Cause and Triumph of King Freak)

What are the 'new and active extras' exactly? On first glance they look like the songs on your MB YE that did not chart, but 'Times Like These' did make the MB alternative chart as far as I know, what am I missing? Ok, I forgot to take that one out, my bad. I moved it to the appropriate section, which is the Mediabase top 50 section.

This consists of the top 120 of the rankdown lists in the Billboard YE sheet tabs. I will remove the 2021 songs when we finalize the lists.

Lots of craziness going on. After WWCD went off the air in Columbus, iHeart responded by flipping WXZX from classic rock to Alternative. WXZX is operating under a unique branding and logo as opposed to using iHeart's typical "The X" and "ALT" branding, and the playlist isn't an exact 1:1 of the typical iHeart playlist either.
We lost Detroit-Windsor's CIMX from the Active panels yesterday as it was flipped to country. Entercom flipped their Detroit-Windsor AC WDZH to Alternative at noon earlier today in response.

In the latest news of the Trapt saga, their Facebook page has been deleted because Chris Taylor Brown posted a Proud Boys (a far-right, neo-fascist and male-only political organization that promotes and engages in political violence) meme.

FU CKING. BRIDGERS! This is her time to shine. - The recognition of Fontaines D.C. and Michael Kiwanuka for Rock Album. - Black Pumas sneaking into the general categories, even if I would've put in other nominees instead. - Katie Pruitt and Devon Gilfillian making into best engineered album is cool to see. - Female artists dominating the rock and country categories. Representation! - The Strokes getting into Rock Album. Cons: - Fiona deserved to compete in the general categories. This was the best received album of the year, and it sure as hell deserved a nomination over Post Malone or JP Saxe. - Coldplay in AOTY feels really wtf even if it's their best received album of the decade. Especially since their only other nomination was for recording package. - Where. The Fu ck. Is Jason Isbell? Or Perfume Genius? Or Angel Olsen?... The lack of Bob Dylan also feels weird seeing he apparently returned to form this year, and in other categories, Lianne La Havas and The Chicks also didn't get anything. - ... AND BECK DOES NOT NEED MULTIPLE NOMINATIONS FOR ONE OF HIS WORST RECEIEVED ALBUMS TO DATE!!! This confirms that they'll nominate anything he churns out. So... "The Valley of the Pagans" for Best Rock Performance next year? - I would say Deftones deserved a nomination at least, but their album was released just after the cutoff period. Last year in metal, I Prevail somehow got two nominations, and this year, the wtf nominee in that genre is In This Moment for referencing multiple of their previous singles. I mean, even if I think "The In-Between" is a bit overhated, I can't really say it deserves a nomination either. - Based off the two singles I've heard (which were merely ok), is Daylight really deserving of its two nominations? - And that isn't even getting into the can of worms that is the Weeknd getting zero nominations in favor of Post Malone, and fu cking Justin Bieber, (supposedly) just because he chose not to perform at the Grammys. Also, the Grammys have reminded us that they will nominate anything Beyoncé.

Nice to see that I haven't heard a single song from the Rock performance nominees...and judging by the artists, don't really plan to either.
Metal performance one's have some interesting stuff though.

Power Trip gets nominated with a live version of a song from five years ago. I bet it will win, too. Kinda s**tty how they are in there obviously because of their vocalist's unfortunate death. The other choices are just boring. I am not into the Grammy awards, but I could not help but notice that this year's 'Best Rock Performance' nominees all had a female lead. Best Rock Performance "Shameika," Fiona Apple "Not," Big Thief "Kyoto," Phoebe Bridgers "The Steps," Haim "Stay High," Brittany Howard "Daylight," Grace Potter It's like they're desperately trying to save face after that comment from a few years back. What's worse is that Best Rock Song category has almost exactly the same nominees. And also, no "hard rock" at all – seriously? They should have never changed up these categories in the first place. I think it was 2012 when the categories were overhauled.

Not one Hard Rock song from the Active charts makes this lists except In This Moment "The In Between". Whatever... If you look deeper, the producer for three Ozzy songs (Graveyard, Ordinary, TWYW) is up for producer of the year, if that counts. Fingers crossed Deftones and BMTH get something next year. Maybe AC/DC could be their 'legacy pick' next year like Beck this year, though this year they went all in on the alt newcomers. If it makes you feel better, there was also only one song on alt to make the rock categories. (Lost in Yesterday)

I'm all for ACϟDC winning any type of award. Even better. They should be inducted into hall of Rock and Roll fame in 2021.
