LET’S MAKE ADELE: Here’s your weekly Adele update: The British diva will remain at #1 next week for the 17th time, with a total of between 90-100k, which will beat the 16-week mark set by the Titanic soundtrack in 1997-’98 and tie the one set by Billy Ray Cyrus’ Some Gave All in ‘92. That’s Miley’s dad, BTW. Next up for the incredible songbird is The Bodyguard soundtrack’s record of 20 weeks at #1 in ’92-’93.. The rest of the chart will look very similar to this week's, with Razor & Tie’s Kidz Bop Kids looking at between 45-50k in sales, while Rise’s Attack Attack! is next up with between 17-20k. Even considering those desultory numbers, with album sales down 12% vs. last week, they were up 5% vs. same week last year and up 6% year to date. Track sales were down 13% vs. last week, up 4% vs. same week last year and up 7% year to date. TEA sales were down 12% vs. last week, up 5% vs. same week last year and up 6% year to date. (1/18p)

It would be cool if "21" collects a total of 21 weeks at #1. That would be perfect.

My 'Achy Breaky Heart' tells me Garth had an 18 week run in the Soundscan era too (albeit before Bodyguard)

Thought Kidz Bop could do better. And no Martina McBride?

Thought Kidz Bop could do better. And no Martina McBride? I don't think many people know about Martina's release. Martina's album is essentially just her old label hoping to cash in by releasing a hits album comprised mostly of the same songs from her last greatest hits album, with a few songs recorded since then and a couple of unreleased tracks, so I doubt it will sell that well.

When was the last time someone had their third single at #1 and their album at #1 at the same time?

The Kids Are Alright: 'Kidz Bop 21' To Bow Big on Billboard 200
January 19, 2012 By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles
The latest edition of the long-running "Kidz Bop" franchise -- "Kidz Bop 21" -- is looking to debut at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 albums chart next week. Industry sources suggest the "Kidz Bop 21" effort could sell between 50,000 to 70,000 copies by week's end on Sunday, Jan. 22.
The "Kidz Bop 21" album features kid-friendly covers of hits like LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem" and Rihanna's "We Found Love."
Coincidentally enough, "Kidz Bop 21" will find itself behind another "21" album -- that never-say-die set by Adele. The British singer's "21" should hold at No. 1 for a 17th week on the chart. If "21" nets a 17th week at No. 1, it will mark the longest run atop the tally since "The Bodyguard" soundtrack wrapped a 20-week run at No. 1 on the chart dated May 29, 1993.
Adele's "21" might sell just under 100,000 copies by week's end, so say industry prognosticators.
Back to "Kidz Bop" for a moment. The kids-singing-pop-hits series had claimed 13 previous top 10 albums, with three of them hitting No. 2. The line's last two regular releases, "Kidz Bop 19" and "Kidz Bop 20," both debuted and peaked at No. 2. (A No. 1 set still eludes the "Kidz.")
Other albums looking to make a high debut on the chart next week include Attack Attack!'s "This Means War" and James Fortune and FIYA's "Identity."

Is this first time the top 2 albums will have the same title? No, Guns & Roses with "Use Your Illusion" Vol's # & 2 did it too.

Those were different titles too.
An example of the same title would be two albums titled "Greatest Hits"

When was the last time someone had their third single at #1 and their album at #1 at the same time? I read that The Beatles did it in 1964 but I'm not convinced. Put it this way, for someone to do it when their third single was released 12 months after their first is surely unique to Adele?

I'd have to look it up but what single it was on but Thriller had 37 weeks at #1, not all in a row, including the 1st 4 months of `1984, long after its Dec 82 release

Adele holds at #1 for the 17th non-consecutive week as the rest of the chart looks depressed and depressing. Here's how it looks headed into the weekend… Read it and weep. Tim McGraw and Nicki Minaj couldn’t come a moment too soon.
Adele 21 (XL/Columbia) 95-105k *Kidz Bop Kids (Razor & Tie) 45-50k Drake (YM/CM/Universal Republic) 28-32k The Black Keys (Nonesuch) 28-32k Rihanna (Def Jam/IDJ) 19-21k Young Jeezy (Def Jam/IDJ) 19-21k *Attack Attack! (Rise) 18-20k Toby Keith (Show Dog) 17-19k Coldplay (Capitol/EMI) 17-19k Joyful Noise (WaterTower) 17-19k LMFAO (Interscope) 16-18k Nickelback (Roadrunner) 15-17k Adele 19 (XL/Columbia) 15-17k Kelly Clarkson (RCA) 15-17k Now 40 (Capitol/EMI) 15-17k

Hopefully the Grammy Awards provide a much needed boost in about 3 weeks.

It might not even take 20k to make the top 5. That is truly awful.

^Yah- I had posted all the coming weeks' "big" releases in one of the other threads. McGraw's last album opened with 137K- so, even if his album doesn't manage much more than 100K, that could be enough for No. 1.

When was the last time someone had their third single at #1 and their album at #1 at the same time? It's possible, and I don't know for sure, that 'Beat It', Thriller's third single, was No. 1 at the same time as the album in April/May of '83. EDIT: I verified this via Wikipedia and the Thriller album was No. 1 from February 26, 1983 – June 24, 1983 so 'Beat It' was at No. 1 while the album was b/c it's run at No. 1 was from April 30, 1983 – May 20, 1983.

It's also possible, and I don't know for sure, that Whitney Houston managed this feat in 1986 with the No. 1 'The Greatest Love Of All,' it was the albums 6th single, and I'm pretty sure the album Whitney Houston didn't hit No. 1 until March of 1986, and it was released in March of 1985. Wish I had access to old charts. The album took 50 weeks to hit No. 1, so it could be she was No. 1 with 'The Greatest Love Of All' the same week the album held the top spot.

Whitney Houston's debut album indeed was No. 1 when "Greatest Love of All" topped the Hot 100.
