'21' is in line though to be the first album ever to occupy the #1 spot at the same time as 3 separate singles from the album

'Joyful Noise' Soundtrack Could Jump Into Top 10 Next Week
January 20, 2012 By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles
The soundtrack to the film "Joyful Noise," which stars Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton, is aiming to make a praiseworthy leap straight into the top 10 on the Billboard 200 next week.
On Nielsen SoundScan's Building chart (below), the album is at No. 8 -- which suggests the set may find itself on the final Billboard 200 tally next week. The Building tally is a precursor to the final Billboard 200 ranking -- reflecting the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week (ending Sunday, Jan. 22) as reported by six major merchants.
Last week, the "Joyful" soundtrack bowed at No. 21 on the Billboard 200, with 13,000 sold in its first week. The set includes turns by Parton and Latifah, as well as their co-stars Keke Palmer and Jeremy Jordan.
It's not unusual for music-heavy films to see their companion soundtracks rally up the chart in January. While there is a lack of major albums released -- and the market readjusts after the Christmas shopping season -- many soundtracks see big gains. Last January, the soundtrack to "Country Strong" jumped up 143 spots on the chart within three weeks time, peaking at No. 6 on the list dated Jan. 29.
As for the rest of the Building chart, Adele's "21" is (surprise!) at No. 1, the "Kidz Bop 21" set is No. 2 and Drake's "Take Care" is No. 3. The Black Keys' "El Camino" (No. 4), Attack Attack!'s "This Means War" (No. 5) and Toby Keith's "Clancy's Tavern" (No. 6) round out the top six titles. The latter could see a return to the Billboard 200's top 10 for the first time since its debut week, when it arrived at No. 4 on the list dated Nov. 12, 2011.
Closing out the top 10 on the Building chart is Rihanna's "Talk That Talk" (No. 7), Young Jeezy's "T M:103 Hustlerz Ambition" (No. 9) and Coldplay's "Mylo Xyloto" (No. 10).
The new Billboard 200 chart's top 10 will be revealed on the morning of Wednesday, Jan. 25.
Nielsen SoundScan Building Chart
Rank LW BB 200 Artist Title
1 1 Adele "21" 2 NEW Kidz Bop Kids "Kidz Bop 21" 3 4 Drake "Take Care" 4 3 The Black Keys "El Camino" 5 NEW Attack Attack! "This Means War" 6 22 Toby Keith "Clancy's Tavern" 7 7 Rihanna "Talk That Talk" 8 21 Soundtrack "Joyful Noise" 9 6 Young Jeezy "T M:103 Hustlerz Ambition" 10 8 Coldplay "Mylo Xyloto"
The Building Chart reflects the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week (which ends Sunday) as reported by six major merchants: iTunes, Trans World Entertainment, Best Buy, Starbucks, Target and Anderson Merchandisers. Billboard estimates that they make up about 85% of all U.S. album sales.

It's also possible, and I don't know for sure, that Whitney Houston managed this feat in 1986 with the No. 1 'The Greatest Love Of All,' it was the albums 6th single, and I'm pretty sure the album Whitney Houston didn't hit No. 1 until March of 1986, and it was released in March of 1985. Wish I had access to old charts. The album took 50 weeks to hit No. 1, so it could be she was No. 1 with 'The Greatest Love Of All' the same week the album held the top spot. Paula Abdul also managed this with her sixth single. "Opposites Attract" was #1 when Forever Your Girl was the #1 album.

No Doubt's "Don't Speak" was a third single and also probably #1 on airplay at the same time as it was on the albums chart (although I haven't checked to be certain). Of course, it didn't actually chart on the Hot 100 though.

The thing is, though, as said, that if SFTTR hits No. 1 and 21 ranks No. 1 in the same week, it will be the first time an act has held down the No. 1 spot with the first, second and third singles simultaneously while the parent album ranked No. 1. At least that's what I think the big to-do would be.

I still remember before Adele came out that many of us were just hoping for her to break 100k with an outside chance at #1 in her debut week. Completely amazing to look back at that now.

Interesting... 10-12 good all swap when BB releases the final numbers. I wonder if Joyful Noise will get in the top 10?

The sales spike for Tim McGraw's Number One Hits is interesting I agree. Curb must have done some pre- Emotional Traffic price decreases. I can't believe it outsold Martina's album this week.

McGraw's album re-entered a few weeks back on the strength of a major discount. If it was Walmart, it makes sense, as country music sells pretty well via that outlet, doesn't it?

I dunno- if featured prominently in the store, with its own section, it very well could.

the Grammys will give Adele a few more weeks at #1. Anyone know what her 4th single will be? I think Rumor Has It could be a huge #1 hit. Anyone else think that?

They had planned RHI to be the third single and then changed tactics, so I think RHI would be the 4th single (assuming they promote a 4th single). And if they go for a fifth the common wisdom seems to be they should go for "Turning Tables."
