The Newsboys
By The Tree still hangs onto the top spot with "Beautiful One". Its contenders are Chris Tomlin, who is in the runner-up spot and Casting Crowns, who seem like a more likely contender for the top spot, because they keep moving up. Michael W. Smith seems to be out of the running as he falls back two places to number six. The Newsboys might make it, but for some reason, I doubt it. If Casting Crowns take the top spot, they could be up there for quite awhile (longevity at the top spot seems to be the rule of thumb this year).
As I predicted last week, Steven Curtis Chapman is back, re-entering the survey at number 16 with "Much Of You". The question is, how far will he go? Seems to me that songs that fall out of the survey for a few weeks during their chart run tend to not go very far. We'll have to wait and see.
Right below SCC is the only debut this week, Salvador's rendition of the song currently #1 on the AC chart, "Heaven". And it doesn't sound much different than the Los Lonely Boys version. This is the second time this year that two different versions of the same song has been on the Christian and AC chart simultaneously. The last time it happened was this past spring with "You Raise Me Up". Josh Groban's version of the song was number one on the AC chart and the song's original writers, Selah, had a big Top Ten song on 20: Countdown. BTW, did Salvador, by any chance, write "Heaven"?
Other than that, not much chart action this week. Just three songs moving up two spots, including a song that has been bouncing up and down the chart pretty much ever since its debut back in August. "Alive In Love" by The Swift, a song that I thought was just about done a few weeks ago, moves up two spots to number twelve. Will it go back up into the Top Ten?
Watermark continue to move down the chart with "The Glory Of Your Name". That's totally weird; I've never seen a song debut in the Top Ten and then drop for several weeks. It would be even weirder if it continues to drop and then fall off the chart, but for some reason, I have a feeling they're going to move back up before long.
The biggest drop this week is a song that's been around for sixteen weeks. "Fall Down" by Trevor Morgan peaked at number ten back in September and looks like it'll be outta here by next week. But he's had a pretty good run.
The oldest song on the survey this week is last week's biggest dropper. "Here With Me" gets closer and closer to the record of 41 weeks. It might not make it, but I think it'll come pretty close.
The founder and lead singer of 4Him has this week's Jon's Future Favorite pick of this week. They had a minor hit earlier this year called "You Reign", but they've also had many big hits. This song sounds like it just might be a big one for Andy Chrisman as a solo artist.
