When I heard the first two songs on the show, I was thinking, "Hmm, the Leap Day weekend show revisited?" If you refer to that chart (which I recently amended, filling in the holes of the "LW" column with guesstimations), you'll find lots of psycho chart moves, like "You Are My King" by the Newsboys falling from 3 to 19, "Leaving 99" by Audio Adrenaline dropping 7-18 in only their third week on, and several big moves up, like "Lose This Life" by Tait moving 14-6 and "Shelter" by Sonicflood shooting ahead 20-9.
Well, though it wasn't as dramatic, we still had a few unusually big drops. Kicking off the show was the oldest song on the chart, MercyMe's "Here With Me", which falls 12-20. Looks like it won't beat the record of 41 weeks, but that's OK, since it just so happens to be MercyMe who hold that record, with "Word Of God Speak" (which, by the way, was spending its 20th and final week on the chart a year ago this weekend).
One spot ahead of MercyMe is the "Leaving 99" of this week's chart. "The Space In Between Us" by Building 429 has only been on the chart for seven weeks, yet it seems to have lost a lot of popularity this week, since it tumbles 9-19. I have a feeling that it's not done yet, though.
Right above Building 429 is a song that has never moved upward on the chart. It debuted all the way up at number ten six weeks ago and ever since, it has been falling or standing still. Watermark's "The Glory Of Your Name" continues to backslide on the chart, falling three more to number eighteen. Hmm, maybe the song won't move back up. This is the first time since I started listening to 20: Countdown back in February that I've seen a chart move like this!
At number 17 (yes I know, I'm doing this week's summary a little differently than I usually do) is a song by a group who has had several number one songs on the chart, two of them in 2001 ("Blue Skies" and "Praise Forevermore"). Point Of Grace's latest release, "I Choose You", however, will probably not follow in the footsteps of those two songs as it's been creeping up the chart slowly and this week rests at number seventeen.
At number sixteen is a song that can't seem to make up its mind which direction to go on the countdown. It debuted four weeks ago at number 20, left the chart the following week, then the week after, came back at number sixteen, fell to 18 last week, and this week, is back up to number sixteen. Will it fall back to, say, nineteen next week? Anything is possible, as we know all too well about this chart.
All along, I was thinking that maybe "Gravity" and/or "Fall Down" had regained this week, but that was put to rest when the next two songs were played, both of them debuts and both former Jon's Future Favorites. The first one, "Homesick" by MercyMe, was the pick two weeks ago and this week, it comes in at number fifteen. I can see that song being one of 2005's number one hits.
One chart rung above "Homesick" is Jon's pick from five weeks ago, "You Are Mine" by Third Day. That song will probably do well on the chart also. Who knows, the two songs may engage in a chart battle in the near future.
At number thirteen is a song that, similar to Steven Curtis Chapman's latest, has been yo-yoing up and down on the chart. Last week they moved up to #12 and this week, it's back down to #13. I'll bet they're getting dizzy!
"King" by the Tree63, seeming to be suffering from recurrent-itis of "Blessed Be Your Name", move up one to number twelve. They're creeping slowly, but surely towards the Top Ten. With BBYN gone from the chart, the song just might make it.
Bethany Dillon keeps going in and out of the Top Ten. She snuck in another week last week and now, she moves back down to #11. Will she make yet another appearance in the Top Ten next week?
Monk & Neagle are really "Dancing With The Angels" this week in celebration of their first Top Ten hit. They move up one to the anchor position of the Top Ten, but I'll bet they ain't gonna stop there!
One song that might help them move up by clearing out of the Top Ten is Jeremy Camp's former #1 "Walk By Faith". He steps down two rungs to number nine and is probably just about done, but what a chart run he's had! He marks a half-year on the chart with this song. Hopefully, it won't experience the same fate as his last hit "Right Here" (the song disappeared from the chart from all the way up in the Top Ten just a week after moving up four spots to that #6).
FFH has spent the entire month of November at number eight. They peaked at number seven last month with "Still The Cross" and they could still move a little higher, but they're going to have to hustle, as the top seven is becoming very congested.
One song that's instrumental in making the upper reaches of the chart tight is the biggest mover of the week. After making a modest move last week from 17 to 16, Salvador's remake of "Heaven" blasts ahead nine spots to number seven (I'm a poet and don't even know it!). Could this song do the same on the Christian charts that Los Lonely Boys did on the AC charts and go all the way? They're certainly making it look that way, but then again, I've learned not to be fooled by huge moves on the 20: Countdown chart.
"You Are God Alone" by Phillips Craig and Dean and "Healing Rain" by Michael W. Smith, at numbers six and five, respectively, are in holding pattern this week.
At number four is what could be the biggest drop from #1 so far this year. Usually, when a song falls out of the top spot, it moves down to #2 (and more often than not, stays in the runner-up position for weeks). But this week, "Beautiful One", after four weeks on top, falls 1-4.
The Newsboys latest song, "Presence" continues to take it step by step up the chart as they've been doing since late October. They moved 8-7-6-5-4-3 where they are this week. Wouldn't be surprised to see them move up to #2 next week.
At #2 this week is a song that could prevent that from happening. Casting Crowns "Voice Of Truth" is up another spot to #2 and looks like they might do the same as their last hit "Who Am I" and top the chart.
At #1 this week is Chris Tomlin's latest song. "Indescribable". So far this year, there has only been one song that spent a single week at #1 ("Child Of Mine" by Mark Schultz). However, with Casting Crowns breathing down his neck, Chris Tomlin's song could become the second song to do so.
Then again, he could shut them out of #1 completely and stay at #1 for weeks. We'll see what happens next week.
That about covers everything, I believe. Well, except for the Sure Shot - er, I mean Jon's Future Favorite. It is Kutless's follow-up to their top ten smash from last summer "Sea Of Faces". The new song is called "It's Like Me" and it sounds like it could do just as well, if not better, than that first song from Kutless's sophomore LP.
