I went for blood today on people: Imagine Electrik Red, Carlos McKinney, some of Tricky Stewarts fare, and other 80s inspired music not existing. It would be an unhappy world dammit.

Everytime I start thinking of the songs he's done I just go on a roll because it's impossible to just keep your mind on one and think of them all at once since there's so many. I start thinking about Delirious, then Adore, then Hot Thing, then Gett Off, then 7, then Alphabet St., then Dirty Mind, then Do Me Baby, then Mountains, then Pop Life, then Take Me With U, then I Wish U Heaven, then Thunder, then Uptown, and then I'm like OMFG INSATIABLE! How the hell did I forget Insatiable?! This is all before the glorious extended and demo versions (This Is Not Music, This Is a Trip, Make Love Not War Erotic City Come Alive, 9 minutes of Glam Slam, 10 minutes of I Would Die 4 U, 21+ f**king minutes of America) and stuff that others sang.
I'm so glad I downloaded that torrent in 2005 or whenever that had all this extra stuff he did that barely made it off of Vinyl if it was lucky. I'm gonna spend the whole weekend revisiting all of them.
Edit: OMG! The Scandalous Sex Suite EP! I forgot all about it! And Sheena Easton's 101! Even his "lowest" period of the 80s knocked off shining gems.
This has been hitting me really hard the whole day. I'm probably going to lose it all over again on 6/7 this year, when I realize that he won't be celebrating his birthday at the same time on Earth as well.

You read for FILTH. You spoke nothing but the truth. Damn his influence was far reaching. I went AWF on people that said he was "alright". Alright, good, and great are not the adjectives to describe what he did. He solely wrote, produced, composed and PERFORMED all of his own music by himself from the late 1970s till last year, or this year; since his last album was released from Tidal in 2016. He was a music GENIUS. He is literally a GOD when it comes to label politics, publishing, copy writing, and snatching his own rights from those that did him wrong. My best friend and I were talking about the SLAVE movement that he started when Warner were trying to keep a grip on him and he turned into The Artist Formely Know as Prince. It wasn't about just using the term SLAVE. He wasn't just using it haphazardly to make a grand statement. He wanted to educate people like TLC, Toni Braxton, and others that would fall into the hands of their labels into debt. Control your art and your sound and what you stand for. You are your own best brand without the hand of others trying to dip their hands into 75% of your worth when you have made an impact. I was listening to The-Dreams first albums and EVERYTHING Carlos McKinney has produced and it all has Prince over it. "Schoolin Life", Chris Brown "You", J. Holiday "Bed", Trey Songz "I Invented Sex", Usher "Trading Places", Mariah "Candy Bling", etc. all were derivative of Purple Rain and Around the World in a Day. This man was music. I love me some Michael but can he say that he wrote, produced, and played the instruments on his own records?

10 minutes of I Would Die 4 U You better PREACH for the 12" version! The way that it is totally demo'ed from a jam session but it sounds so much fuller with all everybody pitching in bit by bit. His extended mixes are so seamless. I can't even listen to the version of Raspberry Beret that is presented on the original album. The 12" single version clocking in over 6 minutes is just bliss and fills in the space that is felt on the single version. That intro, the extended bridge, and every other element is just so incredible. Same goes for Little Red Corvette with the added bridge and adlibs.

I wouldn't have been a fan of Tevin Campbell so instantly without this jam!
The Bangles became relevant after 2 albums because of his input!
Classic! The story revolving its creation is just a majestic.
Would she have her Pop Culture moment on SNL without this B-Side?!
Would The Neptunes have produced Britney's anthem from pop star to adult star without this track being created?
Purple Rain birthed this #1 on the Year End US R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart in 2008
One of Beyonce's best songs that was written by The-Dream and produced by Carlos "L.O.S." McKinney. Prince through and through.
I'm on a rant and will continue to go in for the next couple of weeks.

IWD4U actually has a 30 minute version too that was edited to that 10 minute version where he's directing his band to reach their best. A part of me hopes they just tear the gates off the vault now (or at least he Dream Factory/Camille tracks that still haven't been released or leaked out ages ago, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were legal clauses that prevented this at the same time. One of my favorite hidden gems from his songwriting.

I love stories like this. Everyone in the music industry always has their stories about how Prince has always been there for them and always gave them great advice. A GENIUS.

One of my girls has to get braids this weekend because she had a hair appointment on Thursday and her trim turned into a bob. "Lesson learned: never get your hair done on a national black mourning day." I'm so glad I downloaded that torrent in 2005 or whenever that had all this extra stuff he did that barely made it off of Vinyl if it was lucky. I'm gonna spend the whole weekend revisiting all of them. 2005? I bet that was mine. It's been so long since I've listened to most of the rarities and extended mixes. I still have all my files backed up on an external hard drive, so I will be burning CDs all weekend because I can't keep riding around in my car with only Purple Rain, 3121, Planet Earth, and that one half-assed mix CD I threw together years ago. I have found that I can listen to his upbeat stuff but the ballads are too much for me to handle. Put on Baby I'm a Star or Let's Go Crazy and I forget he's not here, but I can't sit through all of Purple Rain yet; it aches too much. I was re-reading his yanked Ebony interview again and I just...there was so much more he planned to do and I just can't wrap my mind around the idea that it won't get done. He's Prince; there is no such thing as unfinished business! I just can't. Seeing two of his GH sets zoom into the top 10 and remembering he planned to do another one (properly, b/c he had no involvement with The Hits) makes it even more unbelievable. I told someone I am halfway to convincing myself that Prince is secretly vacationing on the same island that 2Pac is on. Peak levels of denial.

Even Michael Jackson's death didn't lead to this level of domination on iTunes (granted, Prince released vastly more material than Michael over his career). I could be wrong, but I'm thinking a lot more people already had Michael's stuff and his music was slightly more "relevant" or "current" when he passed. It's amazing that Prince is being rediscovered by the new generation, it's just such a shame it took him passing for it to happen. Devastated by the loss of another music legend. Just last summer I watched Purple Rain outside in a park in NYC with hundreds of others. Can't even imagine how sad it will be when they inevitably show it again every summer :( When Doves Cry is probably my favorite song of his (and one of my all-time faves by any artist). RIP Prince

I can't think but a few artists who have had such a broad and far reaching impact on the musical landscape as Prince. His influence is so deeply rooted in the sound of so many musicians and artists whether they even realize it or not. Even if they weren't directly influence by him, their favorite artists probably were.
Like someone else said, Prince was essentially peerless. Truly in a league of his own...and a league that HE created. So glad I got to see him live twice. Both times were equally amazing and I will never forget them.

He was also this massive performer and iconic and legendary pop star with huge success... on top of being a masterfully talented and endlessly imaginative musician. AND he kept himself largely out of the public eye on a personal level and was quietly very generous. This combination of things is beyond rare. I've been listening to his albums in their entirety since yesterday. One by one. Slowly. The feels.

I love Manic Monday, one of my faves and of course Love Song by Madonna and Prince. Listened to it today and to be honest, it has always sounded more like a Prince song than a Madonna song. Hopefully one day, we can hear more of what they collaborated on.

Is that the one with "The Work" files that has random stuff (including those from proteges) like Teacher Teacher, G-Spot, Vibrator, the Apollonia version of Manic Monday, Rebirth of the Flesh (which was meant for the Camille project), etc.? A lot of them are just hilarious. www.nicovideo.jp/I've been roaming through the Internet to find visuals and there's a lot here. You have to register, but I just used the email I use for random stuff like this. The Dirty Mind Tour, The Sign 'O' The Times film, the Parade Birthday Concert, the LoveSexy tour and some more are there. I even found a performance of Daddy Pop from Arsenio Hall and Electric Chair on SNL from 1989. Thank God for Japan!

RIP Prince I believe your theory is correct. Prince's last major hit was 1995 (TMBGITW) and that's not even available since it was released on NPG/WB. Btw no hits in 2 decades and the weird way his music was available, no surprise. Plus MJ had consistent catalog sellers like Thriller in addition to other projects that produced relatively hits. I hope the NPG material becomes available because there is some really great stuff there.

I just want to put this here. I feel like it's forgotten amidst the sea of hits in his discography, but this is one of my very favorite Prince songs. Gorgeous and underrated.
