I don't get it. Rihanna has put out two incredibly catchy, radio friendly tracks after We Found Love yet neither seem to have much traction at radio compared to her other singles...let go of We Found Love already! Talk That Talk deserves to smash as well. Hopefully this means she has reached her saturation point. im sure TTT will smash. just give it time, right now CHR has we found love, you da one, take care, and princess of china charting, along with this song. fly is still getting some play too. once you da one and we found love fall more, talk that talk will shine

^That would bea nice surprise, but not something I'm expecting. Taylor Swift got as high as No. 2 on the strength of sales- that also could have been a more competitive time. There is no blockbuster sales single right now, so will be interesting. If Madonna's track is released to iTunes on Friday, it could see an early debut from three days of sales. And, it may have some curiosity spins, which could result in mild airplay. I'd think it will see a higher weekly airplay peak than "Celebration" did in airplay (roughly 6.2 million BDS audience). This is true. This singles best chance for a high chart position is week #1. There won't be sustained radio airplay to carry it much beyond that. Hitting #1 seems possible but not likely. What is more likely is a 1-2 week run in the top 10 before fading.

^Could play out like that- unless audience reception is greater than anticipated.
I don't anticipate a "Music"- or "Don't-Tell-Me"-like airplay, run, for instance, where it gained longer than the typical Madonna lead single (which often peaked around its sixth/seventh week or so). I mean, "Hung Up" peaked in its sixth week, too (albeit at No. 42)- "4 Minutes" peaked at No. 11 in airplay in its seventh week, but still had a bullet in its eighth week.

Madonna is what? 53?
People in this age group may sell a respectable amount of albums if they strike the right chord with the CD buyers.
Mainstream top 40 radio is not going to care much. The parents of the audience of mainstream top 40 listened to Madonna. Long running hits on this chart are not likley for artists in this age group.
Unless - we see a single released as Madonna featuring LMFAO? (See Super Bowl lineup ;) )
Singles featuring younger acts could work.

Artists over 50, that have been as big or bigger than Madonna when they were younger didn't have much luck with hits either. However it is possible that Madonna's new record could receive an Adele-like reception too or it is possible that Madonna's new record could do nothing at all. I guess anything is possible.

Don't worry, she'll never go at this point, it's just 'cause no one can break WFL and YDO wasn't a good choice for a single. And TTT it's just starting to go :)

Missing the point. How many artists over 50 have EVER had #1 hits?
Cher, Santana and Louis Armstrong
Anyone else?
The biggest artists of all time (including Madonna) ran out of #1's by the time they hit their early 40s.

If they could do it, what's to say Madonna can't? Stop trying to use logic to decide whether or not it's possible. Anything's possible, especially considering the number of people this song is going to be exposed to within its release week.

This could be the next-Adele or it could do nothing at all or it could be anywhere in between. MY OPINION is that this won't go to #1

Santana was definitely helped by younger guest vocalists - so I'd kick those out. Elton was Lady Di. Except for Cher - all others were in completely different eras. If anyone has a shot, it's M. Not sure why they aren't releasing the song prior to AI. Seems like a missed opportunity to get even more sales.

Don't underestimate the power of the gays...look at Britney's Hold It Against Me. It wasn't particularly well-received yet still sold SHITLOADS its first week on hype alone. This has two hot young artist that appeal to different groups of people (Nicki & M.I.A.) and will receive the biggest promo slot possible. No act like this (with potentially huge digital sales) has debut a commercial, radio-friendly (in terms of sound) pop song with the Superbowl. We're in uncharted territory, anything could happen.

My only question is will it have enough days to get #1 right away or will it need a full week of sales plus any airplay it gets. I just don't see how you can team up with such a hot artist like Minaj AND debut your song on the biggest possible stage and not get a #1. The only thing that might hurt is that the audience who will buy her song may not be the audience who will watch the game but so many people watch the Superbowl that never watch a game all year so I don't see it being a problem.

About Her Madgesty: What's the point in releasing the single on Friday? Why not Saturday night/ Sunday morning?
I think the strategy will take that oh-so-sure-number-one from her as she needs 350k of sales to dethrone Adele.

Releasing it on Friday gives her two extra days of sales, allowing the song to climb up the iTunes charts and have front page exposure.
