I doubt any campaign will make any difference whatsoever, to be honest... It really won't. The g0rls are letting their blood pressures go up for no reason.

Older titles posting enough activity to return to the top 50 can chart - no airplay qualifier

Yeah so many random old songs performed on American Idol or featured in a commercial are going to chart now, even it they only stay in the #41-50 range for a week or two. We need to know the qualification for audience numbers though. Would the minimum number be 5 or 10 million to be able to rechart? no

what's the most amount of pages a Hot 100 thread ever lasted? lol. The week Mariah's "We Belong Together" first hit #1. Probably one of the most infamous threads in Pulse history.

In terms of albums, the most surprising chart week in the most recent times. Paramore #1 during the midweek and Barbra swings it just by the end!

Wish they changed this when MJ died :(
Who will likely be #1 next week? It will be Whitney vs Adelle right?

^Katy Perry? The No. 2 on iTunes currently is at 0.6681 of the No. 1's popularity.
Plus, I imagine that airplay for Whitney's tracks will have declined somewhat come next Wednesday.

Billboard is totally making a reactionary decision. The HOT 100 needs to just be a sales chart. Billboard should've waited until the end of the chart year to change the rules instead of playing favorites. Billboard is just stanning for whitney. I understand having an albums chart that charted older titles. However, I don't understand singles charting older titles...since the HOT 100 is not a sales only chart.

It is kind of annoying that in a week where Adele and Whitney are clearly the huge music stories, Katy Perry of all people is looking set for the next Hot 100 #1.

But she basically had the best game plan of performing a new song in front of 40 million viewers that wasn't available before. I'm not surprised.

The bottom line is the decision is bad and reactionary. It was not well thought out and they should've waited until the end of the chart year to change the rule for the next year instead of stanning for the favorite artists of the people on their staff.

^Based on her hits from her last album, is it not expected? :)
By the way- while "Give Me All Your Luvin" undoubtedly will drop pretty big in sales next week, I don't think it will break a record for the biggest drop from the top 10. What are some of the biggest drops from the top 10?

Katy Perry released a new song fair and square and people liked it so now it's looking like a #1 single. Michael Jackson had six of the Top 10 best selling singles and wasn't allowed to chart any of them despite petitions and everything on his behalf....yet whitney gets to chart as billboard changes it's rule on the fly. WOW! I am seriously flabbergasted.

And best of all she is donating all the money earned from the sales to charity....but of course she's the devil because she's blocking whitney and Adele.

Surprised the Glee version is not ranked higher- but, really, why get that when you can get Whitney's version. Hudson's performance sits at 678 on iTunes. Thanks, 2m. Yah, kenny G's drop looks secure. I know in recent years some tracks debuted inside top 20 (i.e. Glee, Taylor Swift's "Mean" when it was first released) and dropped completely off the chart the following week. I imagine GMAYL could drop by some 50% or more in sales.

chato- Dolly Parton's version is ranked No. 624 on iTunes. She recorded more than one version, though. From 2003, regarding drops from the top 10: www.billboard.com/news/chart-beat-chat-1852160.story#/news/chart-beat-chat-1852160.storyTHE NIGHT THEY DROVE THE DIXIES DOWNFred, Looks like the title "Landslide" was appropriate. The Dixie Chicks song avalanched this week from No. 10 to No. 43 on Billboard's Hot 100. That's one of the biggest drops ever out of the top-10. Here are the only other songs I could find that fell from the top-10 straight out of the top-40: • "Even the Nights Are Better," Air Supply (6-42, Sept. 25, 1982) • "Steppin' Out (Gonna Boogie Tonight)," Tony Orlando & Dawn (7-48, Nov. 9, 1974) • "Auld Lang Syne," Kenny G (8-66, Jan. 22, 2000) • "Sweet Home Alabama," Lynyrd Skynyrd (8-44, Nov. 9, 1974) • "Love Is in Control (Finger on the Trigger)," Donna Summer (10-59, Oct. 2, 1982) • "Abracadabra," Steve Miller Band (10-48, Oct. 30, 1982) • "Get Down on It," Kool & the Gang (10-47, June 5, 1982) Clearly what's contributed to this is radio's reaction to the Chicks' comments in Europe that were taken as critical of America's involvement in Iraq. Free speech, apparently, has its price. So to help restore the spirit of international friendship, I suggest a challenge to your readers. How many songs can they find that have made the Hot 100 for at least three different acts, each from a different country? As an example, and indeed the only instance I can think of, "Just One Look" charted for American Doris Troy, British act the Hollies, and Canadian Anne Murray. Let's start a musical international coalition! Pat Kelly Brampton, Ontario Dear Pat, The collapse of "Landslide" is the biggest fall from the top-10 since the Kenny G song you cite, "Auld Lang Syne." And speaking of an avalanche, that's how I would describe the E-mails I received this week from "Chart Beat" readers about the sudden drop of the Dixie Chicks. There were too many letters to print them all, but I've picked a small sample to post here in "Chat."

As expected, Taylor Swift had some top 10 hits that plunged from the top 10 in their secodn weeks:
Jump Then Fall: 10-41 Today Was a Fairytale: 2-22 Speak Now: 8-45
I would guess that GMAYL will not drop from No. 10 to outside the top 40.

I have nothing against Katy but in a week when classic real talent (Whitney) and new real talent (Adele) are at the forefront of everyone's minds, it really does suck seeing a cheap trick #1 of rushed material from a very average artist blockade the two others. On principle it just seems wrong. (I liked some of Katy's singles before I get called a "hater," but this latest one is a joke. I feel like we're being punked).
