Dolly Parton on the Death of Whitney Houston
Mine is only one of the millions of hearts broken over the death of Whitney Houston. I will always be grateful and in awe of the wonderful performance she did on my song, and I can truly say from the bottom of my heart, “Whitney, I will always love you. You will be missed.”

Analysis: Whitney Houston's Billboard Chart Records
February 11, 2012 By Gary Trust, New York
Following the news of Whitney Houston's passing today (Feb. 11), here is a look back at the many chart achievements that the gifted vocalist accomplished. * The Houston-led soundtrack to "The Bodyguard" stands as the longest-reigning album by a woman in the 56-year history of the survey. Exclusive: Whitney Houston's Last Songs to Be Featured in 'Sparkle' Film
Here is a look at the elite albums by solo females to have spent the most time atop the tally: Weeks at No. 1, Title, Artist, Year Reached No. 1 20 weeks, "The Bodyguard" soundtrack/Whitney Houston, 1992 19 weeks, "21," Adele, 2011 (*currently at No. 1) 15 weeks, "Tapestry," Carole King, 1971 14 weeks, "Whitney Houston," Whitney Houston, 1986 13 weeks, "Judy at Carnegie Hall," Judy Garland, 1961 12 weeks, "Jagged Little Pill," Alanis Morissette, 1995 12 weeks, "Fearless, " Taylor Swift, 2008 11 weeks, "Mariah Carey," Mariah Carey, 1991 11 weeks, "Whitney," Whitney Houston, 1986 10 weeks, "Forever Your Girl," Paula Abdul, 1989 10 weeks, "The Singing Nun," the Singing Nun, 1963 Houston is the only woman to have tallied reigns of more than 10 weeks with multiple albums. While no other woman has more than one such set, Houston had three: "The Bodyguard" (20 weeks), "Whitney Houston"(14) and "Whitney" (11).
Whitney Houston's 20 Biggest Singles on the Billboard Hot 100 With Houston also leading for a week in 2009 with her last studio album, "I Look to You," her 46 total weeks at the Billboard 200 summit are the most among women. * Four years before the practice became the norm upon the advent of Nielsen SoundScan electronic point-of-sale data, Houston scored the first No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200 for a female performer. The week of June 27, 1987, "Whitney" launched at the chart's top spot, where it held for its first 11 weeks. It remained in the top 10 for its first 31 weeks, through Jan. 23, 1988. * Houston holds the Billboard Hot 100 record for most consecutive No. 1 singles, having tallied seven in-a-row from 1985 through 1988. Here is a look at her unequaled chart-topping streak: Date Reached No. 1, Title (Weeks at No. 1) Oct. 26, 1985, "Saving All My Love for You" (one) Feb. 15, 1986, "How Will I Know" (two) May 17, 1986, "Greatest Love of All" (three) June 27, 1987, "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)" (two) Sept. 26, 1987, "Didn't We Almost Have It All" (two) Jan. 9, 1988, "So Emotional" (one) April 23, 1988, "Where Do Broken Hearts Go" (two) Even when her streak ended, Houston's next four solo singles all reached the Hot 100's top 10. (She missed only with "It Isn't, It Wasn't, It Ain't Never Gonna Be," a sassy superstar duet with Aretha Franklin). With 11 career Hot 100 No. 1s each, Houston and Rihanna trail only Mariah Carey (18) and Madonna (12) for the most among women. Janet Jackson rounds out the category's top five with 10 leaders. * Houston's "Exhale (Shoop, Shoop)" is one of only 13 songs by women to have debuted at No. 1 in the Hot 100's history. The song, from the "Waiting to Exhale" soundtrack, opened atop the Nov. 25, 1995, Hot 100. "Exhale" also led Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for eight frames, becoming one of her eight No. 1s on the tally. Houston additionally notched 10 leading titles on Adult Contemporary, making her one of just seven artists to reach the double-digit mark in the chart's 51-year archives. * When Houston's remake of Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" wrapped its 14-week run atop the Hot 100 in 1993, the song stood as the longest-leading title since the chart's Aug. 4, 1958, inception. To-date, only Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men's "One Sweet Day" (16 weeks, 1995-96) has surpassed the reign (also matched by five other songs). Said Parton, who wrote "Always," upon Houston's passing, "Mine is only one of the millions of hearts broken over the death of Whitney Houston. I will always be grateful and in awe of the wonderful performance she did on my song. "I can truly say from the bottom of my heart, 'Whitney, I will always love you.' "You will be missed."

Watching the "My Love Is Your Love" video on MTV. It looks so good on TV... it reminds me why I loved how adventurous Whitney was musically. :)

Exclusive: Whitney Houston's Last Songs to Be Featured in 'Sparkle' Film
February 11, 2012 By Phil Gallo, Los Angeles
Whitney Houston with Jordin Sparks in "Sparkle"
The last songs Whitney Houston recorded will be heard in the film "Sparkle," one on camera and the other during the closing credits.
Houston sings the gospel classic "Eyes on the Sparrow" in the film and duets with Jordin Sparks, the film's star, on a new R. Kelly song, "Celebrate" over the end credits. The film is in post-production and on schedule; Sony Pictures has it scheduled for release in early August. RCA will release the soundtrack.
Houston recently finished her recording of "Celebrate." Sony executives were pleased with both the way Houston looks and sounds in the film, according to a person familiar with the production.
"Sparkle" is a remake of the 1976 Irene Cara film. The picture was to be an acting comeback for the singer, who had not appeared in a theatrical release since "The Preacher's Wife" in 1996.
Houston was also one of five executive producers on the movie, having acquired remake rights in close to 12 years ago. Her original plan was to have Aaliyah star as Sparkle, until the singer died in a plane crash in August 2001.
"Sparkle" is the fictional story of three singing sisters in 1950s Harlem. One of the singers spirals in to drug addiction that leads to her death.
Sparks is the film's star, Sparkle Williams; Houston plays the sisters' mother. Cee Lo Green is also in the film.
In her film career - "Sparkle" would have been her fourth appearance on the big screen -- Houston stayed close to home with her roles, portraying a pop star in 1992's "The Bodyguard," a TV producer in 1995's "Waiting to Exhale" and a choir mistress in 1996's "The Preacher's Wife."
Whitney Houston Tributes From Artists, Executives Pour In
On Saturday, Sony Pictures released a statement that read "Like all those who knew and loved her, we are shocked and saddened and the world has lost an incomparable talent. Right now our thoughts are with her daughter, her family and her friends."

Whitney Houston's 20 Biggest Singles on the Billboard Hot 100
February 11, 2012 By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles
The late Whitney Houston's legacy on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart is legendary.
Her biggest single on the Hot 100 chart is her iconic "I Will Always Love You," from her film "The Bodyguard." The track spent a staggering 14 weeks atop the list and at the time was the longest-running No. 1 single in history.
Billboard has compiled Houston's top 20 Hot 100 singles, and unsurprisingly, "I Will Always Love You" tops the tally. It is followed by the buoyant "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)," which was her fourth of 11 career No. 1s on the list.
All 11 of her No. 1 hits are present on the recap (below) and also happen to comprise her top 11 singles.
Whitney Houston's Top 20 Hot 100 Hits
Rank - Title - (Year) - Hot 100 Peak Position (weeks spent at No. 1) 1. "I Will Always Love You" (1992) - No. 1 (for 14 weeks) 2. "It's Not Right But It's Okay" (1999) - No. 4
Note: This ranking is based on actual performance on the weekly Billboard Hot 100 chart. Songs are ranked based on an inverse point system, with weeks at No. 1 earning the greatest value and weeks at No. 100 earning the least. To ensure equitable representation of the biggest hits from each era, certain time frames were weighted to account for the difference between turnover rates from those years.

So unbelievably sad. In my mind, Whitney will forever be the best singer in the world. Although we don't know the cause of death, it's truly sad that such an amazing talent was overtaken by addiction. Like so many before her her demons got the best of her. May she rest in peace and sing with the angels.

Looking at MTV makes me realize how I loved so many of Whitney's songs. I've never considered myself a big fan, but I find myself singing every song word for word. Off-key of course.

I am so sad and speechless. Whitney is the person brought me into the music. I cannot believe what I heard in the news. I have to stop hearing the news and play "I will always love you". All of the sudden, I remember so much unbelievable performance that she delivered. I have tears in my eyes and my heart was broken. I never thought that I could be so silly.
R.I.P. Whitney. Thanks for all the great memories and grest music.

Whitney Houston Tribute Planned for Grammys
February 12, 2012 By Billboard staff
A "respectful" tribute to Whitney Houston, who died today at the age of 48, will take place at tonight's Grammy Awards, show producer Ken Erhlich told CNN . Jennifer Hudson has been approached to perform.
"Whitney was a multi-Grammy winner, she appeared on the show a number of times. We're very saddened, and we don't want to rush into anything that wouldn't be respectful," Ehrlich said.
"I've asked Jennifer Hudson to come, and we're really at this moment talking about what she's going to do," he continued. "It's going to be something respectful. It's not going to be a full-blown tribute, that's too early and it's too fresh at this moment. It's going to be something respectful to Whitney's memory. Knowing Whitney like I did, she was a great artist and a great performer, and she knew the importance of thrilling an audience, and that's what we plan to do."

Reports unconfirmed at press time said that Chaka Khan, with whom Houston performed early in her career, was being approached to take part in the tribute as well.

Meanwhile, Saturday night's annual Pre-Grammy gala is going forward, although reports at press time said the mood is subdued.

Really unfortunate that Adele will take her record for most weeks at #1 on the BB200 for a female the week following her death. :(

^Yes, I hope Van Halen blocks Adele this week and TB gets another week or 2 at #1 now that BB allows catalog titles to re-chart. Thanks goodness Katy won't take her record either.

Whitney's got 9 songs in the Top 200 of iTunes now. "I Will Always Love You" is actually there twice. Some of her biggest hits still haven't appeared. I'm surprised to see "One Moment In Time" before "I'm Your Baby Tonight," "Exhale," or any of the My Love Is Your Love singles. "One Moment in Time" may very well be my favorite Whitney Houston song - she sings it amazingly, and it is one of the most inspirational pop songs I have ever heard. To this day, I am surprised it ended her streak of 7 consecutive Hot 100 number ones, and I think it's a great song with which to remember her legacy.

I heard the news on the radio at about 7:00 while driving with friends to go see a movie. I didn't believe it at first. Actually, I wasn't even sure if he said Whitney Houston. So I ChaCha'd it to make sure.
I couldn't believe it. So young. So much talent. Tragic. With it happening about 24 hours from the event, what do you think the Grammys will do tomorrow night to commemorate her wild success?
Oh, and does anyone find it creepy that the two artists who held the records many Katy Perry fans were wanting Katy to break/reach died so young?

It is really, really grotesque to me that celebs showed up for the party and are all smiling and taking advantage of photo ops in the same hotel where a few floors up her body is laying dead. I know people will scream at me about obligations and not being able to cancel parties, but damn.

This is just sickening to read. The mother of his child just passed away a couple of hours ago and he should be with her to condole her instead of performing. I'm sorry for my ranting about him. I just disgust him because of what he did to her. RIP Whitney, you'll always be remembered.

It's odd that her second album isn't on iTunes. I wonder why.
I also never understood why the US edition of her greatest hits only had club remixes of her uptempo hits and not the originals while the international edition had the original versions. She really needs a proper hits collection in the US.

I know people will scream at me about obligations and not being able to cancel parties, but damn. I agree. In particular, Diana Ross left a bad taste with me in terms of how she handled her interview. "It's sad but people are here tonight to celebrate me, so of course I had to come. I can't let down the people who want to celebrate me blah blah"

She said that she decided to show up because they're honoring her with a lifetime achievement award and she couldn't disappoint and said she doesn't know if she's going to enjoy the evening now because of Whitney's death. Not to say I was surprised. This is Diana Ross.

Diana said that? She's always been jealous of Whitney and accused her of taking her crown in the 80's and then with TB, being that Diana was supposed to do that film first. I officially lost Diana as a fan.

She really needs a proper hits collection in the US. Guaranteed we will now. I have both versions - the Int'l version FAR exceeds the domestic version. I thought it was awful what they did to her uptempo songs. The remixes should've been a bonus disc.
