Clear Channel yesterday morning gave Dallas a gold-based AC focused on 1960s Motown, 1970s pop and soul and 1980s hits, as KEGL ended its long run in the Active Rock format by retiring "The Eagle" to become "Sunny 97.1." CC/Dallas VP/Programming & Operations John Roberts remains PD of Sunny, which will retain the heritage KEGL calls. Clear Channel RVP and Dallas Market Manager Brenda Adriance says, "There was a great opportunity for a radio station like the new Sunny 97.1, and we believe this station will better serve the needs of listeners and advertisers in the Dallas-Ft. Worth community." Core artists include Rod Stewart, Stevie Wonder, Phil Collins, Elton John and Fleetwood Mac (article courtesy of Radio and Records).
What does that mean?
KEGL has always been active rock for years and now CC decides to mellow out. Could this mean more competition for KVIL?
