Do you remember a #1 R&B song from Feb. 1987 called "Have You Ever Loved Somebody?" by Freddie Jackson. Too bad this didn't make the Billboard Hot 100.

Actually this song did chart on the Hot 100, reaching #69.
This one was pretty good, one of my favorites by him.

Love it. He had a nearly flawless streak of singles from his debut in 1985 to about 1992. It's easy to forget just how big he was. Almost every single from his first 5 albums went Top 10 on the R&B chart, and he had 10 R&B #1s between 1985 and 1991. He had his last Top 10 in 1992 and then never even made the Top 20 again. It's extremely rare for someone to go from that kind of dominance to falling off that hard and quickly.
Anyway, this is one of my favorite Freddie Jackson singles. I love all his hits. So many excellent quiet storm songs. It's a shame his success was almost completely limited to the mid to late 80s and that he didn't end up having continued success like Luther Vandross.

It sounds like it should have been sung by Luther Vandross instead of Freddie Jackson.

It sounds like it should have been sung by Luther Vandross instead of Freddie Jackson. I don't really think this sounds different from many of Freddie's other hits. He and Luther were often compared because they were the two big male quiet storm singers in the 80s.
