Uh-oh! Looks like the weird charts are returning. For one thing, there are four debuts. I believe that about this time last year, the chart had four debuts also. However, the difference is, back then, two of them were up in the Top Ten ("Blessed Be Your Name" by Tree63 at #9 and "Leaving 99" by Audio Adrenaline at #7). The highest of this week's debuts is at #13. And most of the droppers have been around for quite some time, the oldest being "Walk By Faith" by Jeremy Camp which, after a 35-week run, leaves the chart from #12. Wouldn't be surprised to see him return (a la "Blessed Be Your Name", which re-entered the chart several times late last year).
Speaking of Tree63, the group is off the chart for the first time since this very week in 2004. As I said above, on the February 14 edition of 20: Countdown, the song "Blessed Be Your Name" debuted on the chart and was clearly the song that was most instrumental in their yearlong tenure. And the weeks that "Blessed" wasn't charting, "King" helped to pick up the slack.
Another odd thing about the chart is the sudden drop of "Dancing With The Angels" by Monk & Neagle. It had been sort of fluctuating near the mid-point of the Top Ten for the past few months, but this week, after moving 7-5 last week, it drops to 16. It might recover, though, since you never know when the staff at CRW magazine are going to take a vacation and leave compiling the chart up to dem blindfolded monkeys.
Most songs with declining action in the lower part of last week's chart are gone this week, but somehow, Point Of Grace was spared. Their song "I Choose You" moves down three spots to #19. I'm just now beginning to like that song, for some reason, but it looks like it's pretty much done. Oh well.
Another song that's probably about done is "Heaven" by Salvador. The song had very erratic chart action in the Top Ten, bouncing around like a child on a Moonwalk. It falls out of the Top Ten this week, down to number eleven.
BTW, there's a reason why there's no Jon's Future Hit this week. To help promote the new CDs
by Phillips Craig & Dean, "Let The Worshippers Arise" and "The Worship Collection", for the next few weeks, Jon's going to be playing a feature called "Phillips Craig & Dean: Past & Present". In this feature, he plays an abbreviated version of a past hit by the trio and then a shortened version of a present hit. And every week for the next five weeks, they'll be drawing 20 winners to receive the CDs. For more information on this contest, go to 20thecountdownmagazine.com and click on the "As Heard On 20" icon.
Anyway, the present hit they played by the Phillips Craig & Dean was their latest "You Are God Alone". The past song was "Come, Now Is The Time To Worship". I'll bet they'll be playing "Here I Am To Worship" as a past song in the near future. Hopefully, they'll also play my favorite PC+D song "Let My Words Be Few", from the summer of 2001.
