Dropped:
#15: Live For Today/Natalie Grant (5 weeks)
#20: Cry On My Shoulder/Overflow (2 weeks)
Phillips Craig & Dean: Past & Present
Past: Mercy Came Running
Present: In Christ Alone
Sort of an interesting chart this week. Two debut songs, however the droppers haven't been around for very long at all. "Live For Today" was only on the chart for five weeks (though it's been on the chart since December; the song just dropped out and then re-entered). However, maybe that's because radio stations are concentrating on her new hit "Held", which I heard this past week and thought was great. However, I don't know what happened with "Cry On My Shoulder". That song debuted on the chart about a month back, dropped out, came back last week and once again drops off. Will it return in the near future? We'll have to wait and see.
Big surprise around the top of the chart. First of all, at the top, Casting Crowns hold their ground at number one for a twelfth week (tenth week, if you don't count the two holiday weeks, which I do). And MercyMe might not be going to number one with "Homesick" after all. That song actually falls back to number three this week! The song that moves ahead of them is Jeremy Camp's latest song "Take You Back", moving 5-2. I have a feeling that might be the next number one song. But you never know; the CRW chart is known for its "flukes". This just might be one of them. Who knows; "Homesick" might reverse course on the chart and hit number one next week. BTW, has MercyMe ever failed to top the 20: Countdown chart?
The top debut song, "Your Love Goes On Forever", was a song Jon was going to use as a Future Favorite, but, due to his spotlight on Phillips Craig & Dean over the past month, it hit the chart before he had a chance to. If not for the PC+D thing, he probably would have used the song as a Future Favorite, which I hope returns real soon. As interesting as the Phillips Craig & Dean: Past & Present feature is, I prefer the Future Favorite.
Chris Tomlin is the other debut song, which might cause his older hit "Indescribable" to take a dive, but that's OK; that song has been around for more than a half a year. Looks like the song could stick around long enough to become the oldest song on the survey, since the current one, "Beautiful One" from By The Tree, takes a sudden drop from 9 to 19, in its 28th week. It could be gone by next week, but possibly not; you know how it is with those big drops. They usually recover the week after, so who knows what'll happen?
