Sorry this is a bit late, but I had a rather busy weekend. My station DID air the right one, though.

A rather dull chart this week, with "Held" by Natalie Grant making the biggest move, up four spots. Two songs fall down four spots, both of which have been around for awhile, including "Heaven", which is good. The faster it falls, the better, since, as I've said before, I am so sick of that song. It seems like it's been here forever! On the other hand, it's hard to believe that it's already been 24 weeks for MercyMe. Of course, that's because their songs tend to stick around for months and months (Their year-end chart toppers, "Here With ME" and "Word Of God Speak" were both on the chart for about 40 weeks, plus "I Can Only Imagine" was on for about 26 weeks, which was impressive by early 2002 standards, when they were still using the CCM Magazine instead of CRW, which they use now. Anyway, I doubt that they'll have the top song of 2005, since if they were going to, the song would be charting by now. However, "Word Of God Speak" debuted on the chart on May 31, 2003 and it managed to top the chart for that year (by spending 20 weeks on top). But I haven't heard anything new by MercyMe yet, so they probably won't make it three in a row. Oh well.
A possible contender for top song of 2005 is this week's number one song "Take You Back" by Jeremy Camp. The song has been on top for nine weeks. But how much longer can he stay there? Every song in the top five has a chance to overtake him (although I would imagine that the Bebo Norman song might be running out of steam)
If it had been released a few months later, "Voice Of Truth" by Casting Crowns, which has been on for 29 weeks and is still in the top ten, would also be a contender for this honor. However, some of its chart weeks were in 2004 and songs that are charting at the beginning of the year tend to be ranked lower than if their whole chart run had been within the year. This happened to Matthew West's "More". However, it probably wouldn't have been number one for the year anyway, what with the lengthy chart runs of the top two songs of 2004, but the song was ranked all the way down at number six for the year. If it had been released after the new year, it probably would have gotten number three for the year.
Well, we'll see what happens next week. Hopefully, "Heaven" will leave the chart next week, but it could always pull a "Whatever It Takes" and spend weeks and weeks in the lower reaches of the chart. I sure hope not. The song has got to go!
