Not sure entirely the exact reason of this recent memorandum. As Big Machine already receives distribution from Universal Music Canada via MapleMusic's imprint, Open Road Recordings.
What's this mean? You probably won't see an Open Road logo on a Taylor Swift CD going forward.
28 March 2012 - Toronto, ON) - Universal Music Canada (UMC), the country’s leading Music Company is delighted to announce that they have entered into an exclusive label deal with Nashville’s Big Machine Label Group, the home to superstar artists Taylor Swift and Rascal Flatts. As part of the new deal, UMC will be the sole distributor and marketers of Big Machine’s roster. The announcement was made today by UMC’s President and CEO, Randy Lennox and Big Machine Label Group President and CEO, Scott Borchetta.
Based in Nashville, Tennessee, Big Machine is an independent American record label specializing in country music artists, launched in 2005 by Borchetta.
Commented Lennox: “Under Scott’s tutelage, Big Machine has intelligently become one of the most respected names in music. We are thrilled that Scott has decided to call Universal Music Canada his home north of the border and we look forward to breaking new Big Machine artists and further developing their superstars for years to come.”
Added Borchetta: "The Big Machine Label Group is proud to announce our new relationship with Randy and Universal Music Canada. We've been part of the distribution family since the inception of Big Machine's entrance into Canada and now we are taking the relationship several steps up and several steps deeper. Randy is providing an unmatched opportunity for our label group to have an even greater presence in Canada. More exciting announcements forthcoming.”
