Why was Talk That Talk not submitted for Album of the Year? Loud got nominated, why would they think Talk That Talk couldn't? My best guess would be that Def Jam thinks it has a stronger contender in Frank Ocean's Channel Orange and does not want Talk That Talk to take away some of Channel Orange's potential voters.

Pop Solo Performances will be competitive although Adele will like win it. I hope Mraz makes it though
Still sucked that they merged the female and male vocal performances into one :(

GRAFFITI6 apparently submitted for multiple fields, including: Record of the Year (presumably "Free")
No way they'll win that and I don't expect them to get any nominations anyway, but it's a nice thought, haha.

Adele better (and probably will) win Long-Form Video for her Royal Albert Hall DVD. It's one of the best things I've seen music-wise.

I would say she's a lock for Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song nominations but after the disaster that was the R&B field last year, I can't say for sure. R&B should look good this year if they get it right between Frank Ocean, Beyonce, Usher and Miguel.

SWV better have some submissions for Album of the Year (not that they'd get it), R&B Album, and R&B Song ("Co-Sign").
Can't believe they've only received ONE nomination to their careers (Best New Artist) to date.
Additionally, I believe Tamia is long overdue for a win, although I'd be happy with another nomination.

I just realized that the last 3 years each had 2 albums with just okay-to-decent reviews but with multiple #1s (if you count If I Were a Boy's 2 weeks on top of the digital chart) in for Album of the Year: Rihanna, Katy, Black Eyed Peas, Bruno, Eminem, Beyonce.
But this year no eligible album fits that criteria because the Huge Songs have mostly been from artists on their 1st hit - Gotye, Fun, Carly. Interesting.

Luke Bryan is performing at the Grammy concert. Does that mean he will get nominations? Not sure if invited artists have ever been snubbed by the Grammy committee. His album "Tailgates and Tanlines" was released in August 2011, so is it eligible for Country Album of the Year? If not, the other possibility is Best New Artist? Though this is his 3rd album, it is his breakthrough album and he's never been nominated before. Does Luke fit the criteria for Best New Artist category?

They invited Train there 2 years ago, and they only received one nod despite their massive comeback year with Hey, Soul Sister and If It's Love. As for Luke Bryan, he is not eligible for Country Album because the 2012 Grammy Awards eligibility period was October 1, 2010 to September 30, 2011, and thus would've fallen under last year's blanket as opposed to this year's. As for Best New Artist? I don't know. The Grammys' BNA rules are always so sketchy and strange because there's always one or two nominees that pop up every year that have been in the business prior to their nomination for years and years, i.e. Esperanza Spalding (releasing music since 2001).

Do we know if Capitol submitted Luke Bryan for BNA? Not sure if there's a list out there of all the candidates.
Good point about Train. I googled search and feel so bad for them. MTV interviewed them and they definitely felt hurt and embarrassed. I wish Grammy committee would make sure to choose artists that would end up getting nominations so that they won't feel upset afterwards.

Let's not forget Bon Iver winning. I do love them, but for crying out loud, they had put out an album before their "BEST NEW ARTIST" nomination/win. I have no idea what the GRAMMY's idea of meeting criteria is. They let Bon Iver/Shelby Lynne/Esperanza etc get nominated for BNA, yet strike down Lady GaGa because her song got a single nomination the previous year in the dance category.
They make zero sense.

I don't know what the rule has always been, but you can release up to three albums and still get nominated for BNA.

The rule says something about it being the year they make an impact. That's easier when someone has a big hit or something, but less clear when they are more indie/underground. I also don't know if they get submitted for BNA but aren't nominated, does that mean they can't be submitted again?

Why have the full lists not come out yet? All I can find are the submissions by the big names which I'm less interested in. I want to see if some of my lesser known favs submitted stuff.

I'm guessing one of Luke Bryan's songs "I Don't Want This Night To End" or "Drunk On You" could be nominated. Both were multi platinum hits.

I don't care what happens at the Grammys this year as long as Lana Del Rey's "Born To Die" and Mumford & Sons "Babel" got AOTY noms!

I don't know if it's been discussed, but I think Phillip Phillips' "Home" will walk away with a few nominations. I wouldn't be surprised to see it pop up in the Song and/or Record of the Year categories.
