The Newsboys
Yes, at long last, "Heaven" drops from the countdown (now, if it would only do the same on the AC chart, we'd be batting a thousand). When I saw that there was one debut, I figured that Overflow had dropped out, since that song was entering and exiting the countdown multiple times earlier this year, but instead, they make the biggest mover of the week and shoot ahead from 19 to 12.
Filling in the hole created by Salvador is a song that's been out for quite some time. It just hit the top ten last week on WFRN in South Bend and is Joel Engle's very first hit, "Louder Than The Angels". How far will it go on 20: The Countdown Magazine? We shall see.
Jeremy Camp drops from the top spot with "Take You Back" and we have only our third number one song of 2005, "Holy Is The Lord" by Chris Tomlin. How long will this song spend on top? Will it be another double-digit figure like the number one-runs of Jeremy Camp (10 weeks) and Casting Crowns (11 weeks)? Probably not, as I have a feeling that either ZoeGirl or Joy Williams will be strong enough to overtake him within the next few months. And, the Newsboys, who have had many number one hits, are starting to gain momentum.
But who knows? The Chris Tomlin song might spend as much as fifteen weeks on top. You never know.
Phillips Craig & Dean are already on their way down the chart with "Friend Of God", a song that has been out for a long time (and I don't even think is on the R&R chart yet). However, it's not necessarily over. Last year, they were moving down to number seventeen with "Here I Am To Worship" and the week after, made an abrupt turnabout and moved ahead eleven spots to number six. This song could very well do the same.
Casting Crowns are still way up in the Top Ten with "Voice Of Truth", in their 31st week. Just about ten more weeks and they'll break the all-time record, set by MercyMe in early 2004.
Speaking of MercyMe, they may have missed the top spot with their latest, but they sure aren't in any hurry to leave the countdown, as they spend a second week at number 20 and moved down from #19 the week before. Will they still be here next week?
Guess we'll find out then.
