For the first time in quite awhile, we have a countdown with more than one debut. The two songs that drop out are songs that had been on the chart for a long, long time. It looked like "Much Of You" by Steven Curtis Chapman would stay on the chart forever, but last week, it dropped from 10 to 15 and it drops of the chart this week. "Homesick" by MercyMe also didn't look like it was in any hurry to leave the chart, as it hung around the lower reaches for several weeks. This week, it finally falls off. The highest debut was Jon's Future Favorite pick just last week. The song, "What If" by Jadon Lavik comes in at number seventeen. The other debut is the song that kicked off this week's countdown, "God Will Lift Up Your Head" by Jars Of Clay, a song that I've been hearing on my favorite Christian music stations for weeks.
Not much movement in the top ten at all. The only thing to speak of in the upper half of the chart is the fact that Brian Littrell re-enters the Top Ten after hanging around just outside for several weeks. It bests its previous peak of number ten by one spot. With not much movement immediately below the Top Ten, it should stick around for awhile.
At number eighteen, we have a song that has yet to make an upward move on the chart. Five weeks ago, "Friend Of God" debuted at number 13 (IMO, an "upward move" is an increase in chart position within the countdown), and has either been standing still or falling down ever since. But it just might get a second wind, since I've noticed an increase in plays over the past few weeks on the radio. But then again, that doesn't really mean much. In the past, there have been several other songs that seemed to have been gaining plays, but still continued to slide down the chart. I can't think of any examples right now, but I know that it's happened. As I've pointed out many times before, the CRW chart is totally unpredictable.
Casting Crowns continue to hang on. In their 32nd week, they stand pat at number seven. Of course, that doesn't guarantee that they'll stick around for much longer, as illustrated by the recent Steven Curtis Chapman song, as well as Phillips Craig & Dean's "You Are God Alone" a few weeks ago (it was back up one to number six and fell out the next week). We'll just have to see how Casting Crowns does in the next few weeks.
Chris Tomlin continues to rule the roost for a second week. I'm not even going to try to make any kinds of predictions, due to the stilled Top Five. I have no idea what'll happen. Even the upper reaches of the chart have been known to have bizarre chart moves.
