Can't believe the death of a member of arguably the 2nd most important act in the rock era after the Beatles doesn't even get a mention on a music message board. Those unfamiliar and unwilling to learn about The Band, it's your loss.

I'm not here to belittle Levon Helm's importance to music, because The Band is an extremely important and influential act, but I would never argue that they were the 2nd most important act of the rock era. The Rolling Stones, Elton John, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, The Who, The Kinks, The Clash, Led Zeppelin, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, and several others would rank above them. Top 100, absolutely, no question.
Helm was an amazing musician, though, and he was a great actor also, who should have gotten more roles. My favorite song would have to be "The Weight" with "Up On Cripple Creek" in a close second. R.I.P.

My Facebook feed was pretty full of Helm tributes; didn't even notice the Pulse absence. My two Band favorites are the Bob Dylan composition "When I Paint My Masterpiece" and the excellent original "Acadian Driftwood". But, yes, many great songs from a very influential band. Another death: not starting a new thread because he probably isn't known to most here but Greg Ham, 58 of Men At Work died This I had not heard. Sad news. R.I.P.
