Gotye's Hot 100 Leader Expands Multi-Format DominationThe song is the first to top the Hot 100, Alternative Songs and Dance/Club Play Songs The multi-genre assault of Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know," featuring Kimbra, rolls on, as the song spends a fourth week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 while remaining atop the Alternative Songs chart and conquering a pair of Billboard dance rankings. "Somebody" leads the Alternative Songs airplay chart for a 10th frame and reaches No. 1 on Dance/Club Play Songs and Dance/Mix Show Airplay. The song is the first to top all four tallies and just the third shared leader on Alternative Songs and Dance/Club Play Songs, following U2's "Discotheque" (1997) and New Order's "Regret" (1993). While "Somebody" might seem like an odd candidate for club play, considering the original version's sparse, rock-flavored production, the song has won support in dance circles courtesy of remixes by Thin Red Men, Tiesto and others. Link #1 Hot 100 #1 Digital Songs #1 Rock Songs #1 Alternative Songs #1 Dance/Club Play Songs #1 Dance/Mix Show Airplay #1 AAA #1 On-Demand Songs More possibly to come, currently at: #2 Radio Songs #4 Pop Songs #5 Adult Pop Songs #20 Adult Contemporary Songs I wonder which song has the most no. 1 placements.

So wait is gold now 1mm copies for digital singles? Surely it's a type and they meant platinum. I would think it would've been a major announcement if the RIAA had changed 1,000,000 to gold instead of platinum.

Icehouse and INXS missed it by one week; I know Kylie & INXS were in the top 10 on 11/12/88. That's probably the last time. Oh, cool. Thank you. And that's right; I believe you'd mentioned the Kylie Minogue / INXS example before, which is why I'd focused my research on '90s songs to see if any more recent ones popped out and came up empty.

Wow. "Somebody That I Used To Know" is breaking so many different records. I didn't realize how unique this song really is in terms of what it's accomplishing.

Week Ending May 6, 2012. Songs: “Payphone” Hits PaydirtBy Paul Grein | Chart Watch – 55 minutes ago "Run This Town" by Jay-Z, Rihanna & Kanye West tops the 3 million mark in digital sales this week. The song reached #2 on the Hot 100 in October 2009. It won two Grammys: Best Rap Song and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. It's the third 3-million seller for Jay-Z, the sixth for West and the ninth for Rihanna, which is more than anyone else in digital history.Link People are getting tired of her

Thanks for that! I knew it must have happened in the 80's... but I forgot about Samantha Sang and the Bee Gees. I don't think it happened in the 60's as I don't think The Easybeats or The Seekers ever charted together. As for the 90's, if Natalie Imbruglia had been allowed to chart on airplay alone, she might have crossed paths with Savage Garden in the top 10...
...and as for this week's chart, I wonder which act got the cursed #11 position this week. Train? Calvin Harris? Katy Perry (although I don't care, she already got her #1).

Week Ending May 6, 2012. Songs: “Payphone” Hits PaydirtBy Paul Grein | Chart Watch – 55 minutes ago LMFAO's "Sexy And I Know It," which drops from #37 to #42 in its 36th week, has sold 5,178,000 copies, but one 6-year old boy probably wishes he'd never heard the darned song. A first-grader in Aurora, Colo. was suspended for three days after he told a girl "I'm sexy and I know it," the key line from the song. The boy at Sable Elementary School is accused of sexual harassment and disrupting other students, according to a letter the school district sent to the boy's mother after he was sent home. School officials pointed to a school board policy that defines sexual harassment as any unwelcome sexual advance. There is no age limit. I wonder if six-year olds in 1992 were sent home for singing "I'm Too Sexy." Or in 1981 for chirping "let's get physical." Or in 1929 for reciting lines from "Makin' Whoopee." You can't make this stuff up.

Will Adele's RHI even make the top ten at this point?
Really surprised it's not doing better -- I suppose the Adele train had to slow down at some point.

On-Demand 18 37 39 4 So Good, B.o.B 18
Yet this still dropped 19-32 on Hot 100 so streaming doesn't really make a big difference in top 40 if song is suffering in sales.

The On-Demand chart seems fairly static. The chart history is now 9 weeks deep. 33 of the 50 songs on this weeks chart have been in the top 50 the whole time

Good to see "Paradise" re-enter. Has this song reached the 2 million mark in digital downloads?
