^Not even the discussion. Anyway! If you think there is an objective factual way to determine such thing as "most famous song" then by all means, continue to believe in that rigidity. I disagree, and think with highly successful artists they will frequently have multiple "signature" hits, but your mind seems pretty made up.

Like a virgin, touched for the very first time...
Everyone knows that. From personal experience, it's always the Madonna song played at weddings. It's her most iconic performance (VMAs 1984) and the one that Britney/Xtina sang at the VMAs 2003. When the reporters at the SuperBowl asked the football players what song they thought Madonna would sing they all said "Like a Virgin". Of course there isn't a specific way of knowing what is the "most famous song" but from my vantage point it's far and away Like a Virgin. It's also her most acclaimed song according to acclaimedmusic.net. It's one of those generation-defining IT songs that everybody knows.

I believe We Found Love will be remembered as an equal of Umbrella, in the same way Britney Spears has ...Baby One More and Toxic. One made them a superstar (granted Rihanna had been on the scene for two years) but the other is as equally as iconic and considered as much a fan favorite. As a college student, We Found Love was inescable in a way Low was in 2008 or Tik Tok in 2009/10.

Wouldn't Vogue be her most famous? I mean the dance, the video, the moviestar shout-outs, etc.

Isn't she referred to as the 'Material Girl' to this day?

Isn't she referred to as the 'Material Girl' to this day? Yes. I disagree with the idea that every artist has a signature hit. In Madonna's case, I'd say it's quite clear she doesn't. "Material Girl" and "Like a Virgin" and "Like a Prayer" and, to a degree, "Vogue", all make compelling cases, but the fact that a lot of people associate all of these songs with her automatically would negate the idea that she has any one signature hit. (In the same sense that most people don't have more than one signature, I can't see deeming more than one song by an artist as a signature hit; one either has one or one doesn't.)

Usher still receiving incredible attention. Doesn't seem to have the initial digital power he used to as "Scream" presently sits at #39 on iTunes.
"Wide Awake" is Katy's next single? Wouldn't be surprised if she misses the top 10 with this choice. It is only her 14th single from Teenage Dream so there's no shame in that.
Rihanna back on track with "Where Have You Been". The track could potentially enter the top 10 on iTunes by the end of the week when the displacement The Voice has ended.
I expect David Guetta's "Titanium" to begin a faster ascension soon. Great song and Sia's recent success on "Wild Ones" should hopefully draw additional interest.

April-May seem to be traditionally the time for long lasting and huge chart toppers. During this millennium alone we have had:
Maria, Maria (10 wks) All for You (7 wks) Foolish (10 wks) In da Club (9 wks) Yeah (12 wks) Candy Shop (9 wks) followed by Hollaback Girl (4 wks) Bad Day (5 wks) - who would've thought.... 2007 was an exception, there were 4 number ones in May alone Bleeding Love (4 wks) was disturbed by Touch My Body and Lollipop Boom Boom Pow (12 wks) - Words still can't describe the dominance BEP had Rude Boy (5 wks) reigned in April E.T. (5 wks) would have got the sixth without that famous S&M remix We Are Young (6 wks) and god knows how many weeks for Gotye...

We Found Love - 10 weeks *Grenade/ Firework were equally huge. E.T. (5 wks) would have got the sixth without that infamous S&M remix :) :) As for the dec-jan hits, it's normal because there's no new big realease until the first week february, or last week of january.

Traditionally always the last chart of the year held a LLLOOOONNNNGGGG chart topper. Usually goes hand in hand with frozen station playlists, Christmas music, etc.
The new norm, though is that this is shattered by iTunes explosions on Christmas week.

I missed the eighth-day effect for Usher's "Scream." It's still gaining decently enough. But, I imagine urban will stick weith "Climax"- much like the format's disinterest in "DJ Got Us..."

12 songs on the top 20 are falling pretty hard right now. Rumour Has It and Drive By are sticking around and the other 6 are going pretty high all the way. Curious. And out of that, paying a lot of attention at WHYB and Scream.

"Scream" will become a hit because of airplay...sales are pretty bad for the lead pop single of a superstar like Usher.

Usher's songs have never sold the Taylor Swift way right out of the gate but it's been a bit underwhelming I agree.
