I am not a fan of Celine Dion at all, but this is definitely one of my favorites from her. Very uplifting and powerful. The song peaked at #1 on the Hot 100 for six weeks, CHR for seven weeks, and the AC chart for an amazing nineteen weeks. Surprisingly, this also peaked at #4 on Rhythmic and #41 on the R&B chart. She would later reach #5 on that chart with her R. Kelly duet.

Blue-eyed soul icon. :'( I was obsessed with this when it was out. I still like it, but there many songs I prefer by her now. The overplay of some of her biggest hits made me like them less than I originally did.

I've always prefered this over 'My Heart Will Go On'.

Diane Warren did write a knockout with this one, but I still prefer many of her non-singles that she wrote for Celine over this.
Celine's vocals are pristine and it's definitely one of her signatures. She makes it sound effortless to sing. Not one of my faves, but I can see why so many cherish it.

This is definitely my favorite song of hers.
It's curious how similar the song is to "I Turn To You" by All-4-One/Christina Aguilera. I believe Diane Warren wrote them almost at the same time.

For some reason, my mother F**KING LOVED this song. And this is not the type of music she listens to at all. She overplayed it, radio overplayed, VH1 overplayed it. I love Celine the celebrity, she's a kook and I dig her. But damn her music sucks.

This was alright but not a highlight from her catalogue for me.

This is one of the 3 Celine singles I like (the other 2 are "Taking Chances" and "That's The Way It Is")
I literally never realized this was her song until it randomly started playing on my Spotify last week. This was SO much better than "My Heart Goes On". The vocal arrangement is very Whitney-ish.

This sounds out of place on FIY to me.

This was played a lot on my AC stations (Lite FM 93.9 and 100.3). Even B96 played this song a lot, which was unusual for a rhythmic top 40 station. Several of Celine's songs were top 40 hits but I didn't expect it to do as well as it did on the rhythmic charts (among the trade magazines that had such a chart. Again, I'm wasn't a big fan of love song/ballads (or Celine Dion in particular) when I was younger, but if I were to chose a favorite Celine Dion song, it would probably be this one as I can tolerate it much more than "My Heart Will Go On".

One of my favorite Celine singles, though I do prefer "It's All Coming Back to Me Now." I can see why it was such a big hit.

Such a beautiful song. One of my favorites.
I loved the Chris Cox remix of this that was done for a remix album to accompany one of her greatest hits albums a few years ago that never actually materialized.

Question for those who lived through the FIY album era in real time:
Was this song originally just released for the movie soundtrack it was on? Or was it simultaneous promo for the release of the album and the soundtrack? Or did they tack this onto the album and launch FIY with "It's All Coming Back To Me Now" stateside? (I know the title track was released between this and IACBTMN in Europe.)

If I recall correctly, it was released for both the film and her album - so there was never a point when this was just for the movie. I donβt even think the time period between this coming out and the parent album itself was particularly long either. Back around that time, songs could be used as part of promo for multiple entities, as we saw again a few years later from her with My Heart Will Go On.

The soundtrack only preceded the release of Falling Into You by a couple weeks, but I don't even think "Because You Loved Me" was on the movie soundtrack that was available for purchase. It was just the score.

In my infinite spare time /sarcasm,
I would love to go back through Radio & Records and gather radio release and adds dates. I feel like sales street dates are easier to find.

I think the entire (or most) of the print issues are online. I have it bookmarked (on my computer) so the adds date might be in there somewhere. If you donβt have it, I can try to share it when I get home. (It was also posted in a thread here a week or so ago.)

I recall adds dates not really being public info (even in the trade publications) until around 2000. That's when All Access, which had been around since 1995, started the list of upcoming adds dates.

The single impacted in February of 1996, and the album dropped in March so it was definitely all tied together. Attachment Deleted

In the U.S. "Because You Loved Me" was the lead-single, but in the UK and several other countries, "Falling Into You" was the lead single and BYLM was the #2.
