Hmm yes but technically they're all on the new version. I do agree that it's not same than having one release with 8 top 5 hits but worth noticing nevertheless. And that's why I find weird that Grein didn't even mention it being special.

They all were not released off the new version though. <Any Classic Artist> Number Ones or Greatest Hits would contain more top 5 hits.

If these songs all were released off the same album then it would have warranted a mention like the 5 number ones and the chase for a 6th did

Billboard already said that, to them, they are two different albums (whether it makes sense or not).

You can treat it however you want but you can't expect everyone to see it the same way you do, especially if they mostly follow Billboard's rules.

This seems to be the better way of looking at it. However, if you choose, there are 8 top 5 hits on the track listing of the special edition of Teenage Dream and 6 number ones. Both records for one album - all releases combined.

However don't hold your breath waiting to read about it in an industry article since these did not come from the same release

...for singles, I agree 100%. It feels similar to the 80s/90s heydays of artists like Janet Jackson, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Mariah, Whitney...

For albums, however, it is surprisingly un-notable.

Nope billboard doesn't consider it for records because 2 are from a re-release. It's not the same as having 7 top 5 singles from one release.

Actually, I don't consider them a one hit wonder whether it's #41 or #40, but everybody has their own scale that they go by. Billboard basically considers you a true One Hit Wonder if you score a #1 hit, and then never make the Hot 100 ever again. Most people's personal scales are not quite that extreme though.

I just figured that once they are within the Top 40, that they pretty much can't be considered a one hit wonder by anybody, so that's why I used it.

'Top 40' in regards to this chart used to have significance because this chart for the longest time was the source for AT40, it isn't that way any more so being 'Top 40' seems to have less meaning now?

True one hit wonders are those that have one hit and not two(not just hitting #1). What is a "hit"? That has multiple meanings depending on who you ask

A "literal" one-hit wonder = someone who has only had one song chart on the Hot 100 (some people would even extend that further to be any chart)

A "colloquial" one-hit wonder = someone who has had only one big song to reach a mass audience, regardless of chart performance (this is highly subjective)

For example, VH1 tends to make lists that are colloquial.

You end up with weird situations where someone like Meredith Brooks is considered by some to be a one-hit wonder for "Bitch" even though "What Would Happen" actually was a moderate hit as well, and then opposite situations where someone like the Cardigans is regarded as a one-hit wonder despite technically having zero hits on the Hot 100 (since "Lovefool" was not chart eligible).

A Hot 100 entry is referred to as a "Hot 100 hit." Same for a "Bubbling Under hit." There are varying levels of "hitdom." :)

^Some agree with you Adonis, but the more conditions you put around it the more you have to clarify what you're calling your list. Yours would be "One-top-40-hit-on-the-Billboard-Hot-100 Wonders" -- not quite the same ring to it. :)
