Not by much, as they have 3 versions in the top 40 of the itunes chart. Normally album release weeks boost sales of the single too, so I would think they could potentially increase in sales. But "Call Me Maybe" should hold onto the top spot this week. Maroon 5 could grab it next week though.

This is correct. While it messes with people's plans by splitting celebrations between two weekends, it puts radio at an ease by allowing only one day for "patriotic" songs, such as "Let Freedom Ring," "Firework," etc. etc.

That's the thing, though. iTunes only shows songs being downloaded, not returned. "Boyfriend" never really fell hard last week on iTunes, yet it fell hard off the Hot Digital Songs list, causing it to fall 10-18 on the Hot 100.

I think the worst case of it was "Hold It Against Me," whos sales actually ended up being negative for the week the album was released.

But Overexposed isn't on track to sell as much as those two albums, so it may not see a big drop in sales.

iTunes has a feature called "Complete My Album." Whenever people download a song from an album, and then later decide to buy the album, then use the "Complete My Album" feature, which downloads all songs the user doesn't already have for a reduced price. Unfortunately, though, this counts as a return for the individual downloaded songs and changed to 1 purchase of the album. So when sales come in for that week, they're much lower than what they actually are because so many people chose to go with the "Complete My Album" feature.

I hate it. I mean, I love the "Complete My Album" feature (I was actually able to by Britney's album for about $3 because I already owned three songs and the album was on sale for $7), but I hate that iTunes counts it as a return. I didn't delete my old download and get a new copy. It's still the same file. Nothing was changed. So it really makes no sense why iTunes does that.

"Macarena" never sold anywhere close to 3 million in a week- there's only so much of a gap in airplay for tracks, but there's never been the kind of sales domination in the SS era as seen by Elton John's single. :)
