^A Rolling Stone thing. :) Born This Way really didn't do all that well on 2011 year-end critics' lists- Queen B.'s 4 album fared better.

Born This Way outranked every Madonna album. :o Born this Way is every Madonna album. This list is kind of weird... 50 great artists, ranked strangely.

Yeah the ranking does look like it's on shuffle or something.
And agreed about the lack of Winehouse. Annie Lennox's Diva should be there as well.
If they were going to include a Lady Gaga album (personally I think albums of the last couple years should be exempt from these 'all time' lists - how can you possibly compare current chart hits with the classics in a fair manner? Let the dust settle at least), I would've gone for The Fame Monster EP. I think that will stand up much better in ten years than BTW - in fact it already does. The only song on BTW that comes close to the many highs on TFM is "The Edge of Glory".
I'm pleased to see Blondie so high and Cyndi making an appearance.

Stupid List. Where is WHITNEY HOUSTON? The album that started the female VOCAL POWERHOUSE movement?
Where is BUTTERFLY? The album that started the trend of female artists bucking the 'system' and doing it for themselves?
Those exclusions means this list is trash!

I guess Whitney's first album could be on there but wasn't she generally considered to be a "singles artist" by the critics aside from the well regarded debut?

I love Whitney and I'm Your Baby Tonight is one of my favorite albums of the 90s (and her debut for the 80s) but I've never seen any album aside from the debut on any all time list. I'm not saying she doesn't belong there, it's just not a big surprise that they snubbed her

I thought RS loved Whitney's first album and gave it 4 stars? Like the inclusion of Cyndi and Donna, but Amy, Whitney, and even Norah's first album should be there.

Whitney Houston is ranked at the Acclaimed Music site; none of her other albums are. The Bodyguard soundtrack has appeared on a few lists, but not enough for top 3000 placement.
Butterfly has appeared on a few lists, but also is a bubbling under album at AM. Neither Houston or Carey have enjoyed large acclaim on these kinds of lists, so it's not really surprising that RS didn't include an album from them on this updated list.

Surprised at 4 appearing on the list. I thought it got decent reviews but nothing worthy of this list. Same with Born This Way.
Very glad with Hole, Fleetwood Mac, Madonna, Alanis, Janet, Joni, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs making it.

I'm surprised Jagged Little Pill is so low, but at least it made it.
Glad to see Rhythm Nation 1814 on there. At least some people remember when Janet was acclaimed and successful.

Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline and Supremes are represented by "collections" - GH should NOT be included on this type of list.

at some of the responses in this thread. It's a great list, but the order could be retooled. I'd love to see a Top 100.

Let me cover about eight more responses for you: No [my favorite diva]'s [BEST ALBUM]???????
Now that we're past that...really? This is from the introductory paragraph:
Adele? Fierce? Rock and roller? Come on...I don't think I need to explain how much I love Adele but "rock and roll" is about as far from a good descriptor of her as rap would be.
