Infinity CEO Mel Karmazin has resigned. Howard Stern has even said on his radio show that if Mel goes, he goes. If he holds true, his days may be numbered. This now puts his affiliates in a scrambling mode. Hopefully they all have backup plans in the event he leaves suddenly.

I don't see Howard going anywhere. He's making too much money. I don't care how much money a person has, you just don't leave that much money on the table. The only way Howard is going anywhere is if Karmazin moves on to another company. Stern just signed another contract with Infinity/Westwood One. I can't remember how long it is for, but I have to wonder if there is a clause in it that if Karmazin left, he could void the contract.
On a personal note, I am glad Karmazin is gone. He's always pushed Congress and The President for more consolidation. That's the last thing the industry needs.

On a personal note, I am glad Karmazin is gone. He's always pushed Congress and The President for more consolidation. That's the last thing the industry needs. But he's also pushed against the FCC crackdown on indecency, vowing to fight fines. ALL of the group owners are going to be in favor of more consolidation. That's just a fact of business. Karmazin was at least willing to fight the FCC on something. Now Infinity will probably be going along with this stupid crackdown just like CC and all the other groups. Karmazin was a radio guy. He understood the business of radio and that's why Infinity stations tend to bill so well. This is like when Randy James resigned from Clear Channel. He was also a radio guy, and CC's radio stations have become more boring and less edgy since he left. Trust me, as much as you might hate Karmazin, whoever replaces him will be worse.
