Currently this song is slated to be on the Target Xmas CD and may or may not be on the studio album. The new Goo album is due in early 2006. Is there a lot of XMas music on it? I was wondering because in the beginning of this song it discusses, "all I wish for this year is..." or something like that. I've just realized now that it has been about a year since Give A Little Bit, which ended up being a huge hit for them regardless of how it didn't do too well on POP. As a matter of fact, I thought Give A Little Bit sounded very christmas-like, pretty sure Annie Lennox redid it for XMas or something once.

lyrically, this song could really be about Christmas in some ways...weird.

I wonder why they wouldn't put this on the new album, so in other words this is like a Kelly Clarkson with "Breakaway" situation?

I'm sure this will end up on the new album if it's a hit.

Supposedly this is now being used in some sort of conjunction with Hurricane Katrina relief. There was a little video feature about it (which I didn't watch) on the front page of cnn.com
And this is now Top 10 at iTunes.

I have to say....SLIDE was kinda the song that hooked me away from country and to top40 music. One of the best songs from the late 90s. GALB was awful tho, I prefer supertramps version 100 to 1. I did see them w/ Bon Jovi a month ago for Miller Brewery's 150th Bday. They were pretty good.

I think the Goo Goo Dolls are a very, very lucky group. I've always wanted to like them but unfortunately I don't like any of their songs. Maybe this will be the first.

Do you mean they are lucky because you don't think they deserved big hits?

A. Goo Goo Dolls lucky? I don't think the most spins accumulated in one week in Billboard's History between all the charts (Iris, Summer of '98 on Hot AC, AAA, Alt., and AC) is lucky. Or, I don't think Name, Slide, and Iris, all #1 smash hits is too lucky either. Not to mention, Black Balloon, Here Is Gone, and Broadway all Top 20 hits that still are staple Hot AC recurrents (BB on POP), is too lucky either.
B. Better Days is appearing to be one of the biggest movers\Hot AC its of the year. A bullet over +650 is rarely seen on the Hot AC chart and only about 5 to 7 songs this entire year have achieved bullets that high. (Lonely No More, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, etc.) It has just entered today's chart at #19 and is likely to hit Top 10 by the end of next week. Congrats for the Goos. I like this song much better than the dreadful Give A Little Bit.

And those other songs you mentioned (BB, Here Is Gone, and Broadway) were all top 10 hits for the group on HAC.

Using the word "lucky" is like saying that an artist or a song didn't deserved the success that they've gotten, I personally don't think they were lucky with their hits, I think they've deserved the success that they've had, and I hope "Better Days" can rise right up there with their big hits.

I wouldn't take someone with four posts seriously. We don't know the mentality behind that comment. Saying someone was lucky just because you personally don't like their songs is kind of silly.

I love this song. This better be a multi-format hit this time, it deserves it.
Looking forward to buying something new from them.

I love this song, but I've loved every Goo Goo Dolls song (even "Give A Little Bit" at one point in time). I'm glad this has been doing well on Hot AC, but I'm surprised it has slown down quite about, hopefully this will go top 3 at least, it's almost top 60 on Pop. Hopefully, this will get a bigger push soon, still any word on the actual album? I can't wait! What about the Target Christmas album thing? I don't think I've ever been more clueless about where a song is coming from, I'm surprised there hasn't been more information, it's kind of bad when you just put a song out and no one really knows what is going on.

The Target CD is already out and I think the new CD is slated for February.
Also, the video is now online at Yahoo music and is slated for adds at VH1 starting Monday.

With the mention of gifts in the first verse, it can be interpreted as a Christmas song, especially at this time of the year. As with most holiday-themed songs, the lyrics are little predictable, though. I'm hoping the song will grow on me. It does seem better than "Give A Little Bit", which I agree was their blandest yet.

I must be the only one here that likes Give a Little Bit, even more than Supertramp's version. I've always found Supertramp's version even more boring.

This single has had a pretty decent run at this format.
Anyway, it probably is safe to say this wasn't the lead single from their next album, and I would like to see them return to an edgier style of performance.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I like this song despite the horrible lyrics.
