Ha, I was going to post about this yesterday but didn't bother since I doubt we'll ever actually be hearing this on radio. :( It'll do well at AAA, but that's it.
I do really like this song.

man...does ANYONE outside of their hardcore fanbase care about these guys at all anymore? Luckily they have probably the largest hardcore fanbase of any band that is still together today.

man...does ANYONE outside of their hardcore fanbase care about these guys at all anymore? Yes, a lot of people do. That's why they're still the #1 touring act in America.

Because the Dave Matthews Band is so well established in the touring industry, the band has full potential to always make a mainstream comeback.
However, one current fact is that the band is losing ground at Hot AC as the collapse of "American Baby" shows, one of their most radio-friendly singles to date, and they can reclaim that ground they've lost, but the fact is, they're moving a bit farther from their roots than ever, many fans are disenchanted by the fact Dave Matthews seems to have overall lost the thoughtful, introspective form of songwriting touch he had during the first three albums, and there appears to indeed be a schism running through their fanbase as it is, where many only continue to see Matthews because they want to hear the jam stuff ("Warehouse", "Ants Marching", "Recently", etc.) The band seems to be in a rut right now, they can't figure out where they want to go next, and it seems they're re-writing a lot of their recent material.
This single is going to flop beyond Triple A, period, especially if "Dreamgirl", which was moderately radio-friendly, has done nothing at Hot AC.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I was really surprised that Dream Girl didn't make a little dent in HotAC. But what was even more surprising was that the video for the song along with an appearance by Julia Roberts didn't do anything to help their album sales. I think they are at 1.2-1.3m which in today's age for an established act that be around for more than 10 years is amazing. I just thought the video would boost sales some.
I'm just familiar with DMB's singles and the fact that I like what I know of the band. I like Dave.
