Well, other than Gwen Stefani and Kelly Clarkson being clearly lower on the chart than they should be, this week's chart looks OK. "Feel Good Inc." is not yet in the Top 20 of the matching October 28 R&R chart, but it does hit the Top 20 for the week after. I have a feeling that Gwen Stefani will drop out next week, so there'll probably be at least one debut. I'm hoping that it's "She Says" by Howie Day, which is moving up the R&R chart. It might also be Alanis Morissette's cover of Seal's "Crazy" or possibly even "Hung Up" by Madonna, both in the Top 30 of the R&R chart and making pretty good-sized jumps. Number one for a second week is "Wake Me Up When September Ends" by Green Day, which will probably stay on top for quite awhile now, unless Nickelback is strong enough to dethrone them.

There, that better? (Actually, I had just forgotten to list them. No, the VH-1 show hasn't gotten so overrun with gossip that they had to eliminate the Extras).
Anyway, here's this week's show:

Well, I was right about my predictions of what would fall out and what would debut. So every song on the chart this week is also in the Top 20 of the R&R Hot AC chart for November 4 (as the Gorillaz move 22-19). Four songs in the Top 20 have since left the VH-1 chart. Those songs are "You'll Think Of Me" by Keith Urban (#6), "Cool" by Gwen Stefani (#8), "Lonely No More" by Rob Thomas (#14), and "Listen To Your Heart" by D.H.T. (#18). We haven't had any instances of old songs suddenly back on the countdown in the Top Ten, so those songs are probably gone for good. There is one song on R&R's Top 20 that hasn't yet made the Rewind. That song is "Right Here" by Staind, which climbs three spots to #20. Perhaps that song will be on the chart next week, if "Behind These Hazel Eyes" or "Holiday" weaken enough. I must say, not the best choice for this week's 1980s hit. I hadn't heard Tiffany's terrible remake of Tommy James' hit "I Think We're Alone Now" for ages; why couldn't it have stayed that way. Well, I guess they didn't want to play the other remake "Mony Mony", since they played it last year (I was flipping through the dial last November and happened upon the show as they were introing that song. Since I thought this was a countdown of the top videos, I changed the station, which wasn't coming in all that well to begin with). I also hadn't heard Whitney Houston's "Shoop" for quite awhile, since most stations play either "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" or "I'm Your Baby Tonight". So, even though "Shoop" is far from being my favorite Whitney Houston song, it was good to hear it again. I was surprised that Green Day fell out of the top spot after only one week. But I have a feeling they're not done yet. I wonder if it'll be a back and forth battle between Nickelback and Green Day like the one between Lifehouse and Coldplay this past summer. We'll have to wait and see.

There are a few WTF's on this week's chart, the most obvious being "I'm Feeling You" by Santana with Michelle Branch falling back to #10 after moving up the chart fast over the past month. Hopefully, they're just pulling a "Collide" and will recover in the next few weeks. Another is "Feel Good Inc." falling out of the survey after only two weeks. The song is still in the Top 20 of the R&R chart and still has a bullet. But who knows; a handful of songs have fallen off this chart only to return a few weeks later. It looks like they're making it up to Green Day for terminating "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams" several months too early by leaving "Holiday" on for the duration (on the matching R&R chart, it's also number 15 and getting ready to leave the survey). I have a feeling it might just do the same on the VH-1 chart. Looking at the Weeks On Chart tally, it is obvious that this chart moves very quickly. With the exception of "You And Me" and "This Is How A Heart Breaks" (two songs that are still in the top five of the R&R chart, but will probably be falling off the VH-1 chart very soon) and "Holiday", all songs have been on the chart for less than three months. As much as I complain about how weird this chart is, I actually like that sort of variety, instead of hearing the same songs week after week after week. That would definitely be the case if the chart went by R&R. Possible contenders for debuts in the near future include "Right Here" by Staind and "Hung Up" by Madonna. Will those songs debut next week? I guess we'll find out this coming Sunday.

On The Verge: How Do You Love/Collective Soul
Only one On The Verge song this week, but it was a great one, the latest by Collective Soul. I love the chord progressions in the song! As for the chart, aside from the many songs still riding high on R&R's HAC chart being absent, it looks pretty good. Almost every song on this chart is in the Top 20 of the R&R chart. The only one that isn't is this week's debut, "Right Here" by Staind, which drops from #18 to #21 in a congested area of the chart. "Hung Up" by Madonna, a step ahead of Staind, is the only song in the Top 20 that has not yet made the VH-1 chart, so that might debut on the chart next week. The question is, what would be the song to fall out? I'm thinking possibly the Gorillaz again, or maybe Staind, which only gains six plays on R&R. Of course, that really doesn't mean much; as far as we know, both songs could fall out next week as Gavin DeGraw, INXS, or possibly even Rob Thomas hit the chart. We'll just have to wait and see. The VH-1 Weekly Rewind, as we know all too well, is very unpredictable.
