Happy Labor Day everyone! As we start a brand new month's worth of VH-1 Weekly Rewinds, I have implemented a brand new feature and that is, yes, a "weeks on chart" column. As "Lonely No More" steps off the chart, that means that there are no more songs that were on the chart before I started listening to VH-1 countdown. The Lifehouse song was just debuting on the chart the week I started keeping tabs on the show and I was lucky enough to hear host Rachel Perry announce that it was "On The Verge" the week before. Well, anyway, here's this week's chart:
LC TC wc SONG/ARTIST 01 01 11 Behind These Hazel Eyes/Kelly Clarkson 02 02 26 You And Me/Lifehouse 03 03 10 You'll Think Of Me/Keith Urban 05 04 14 Better Now/Collective Soul 06 05 07 This Is How A Heart Breaks/Rob Thomas 07 06 09 Holiday/Green Day Flashback Track - the 90s: If Wishes Came True/Sweet Sensation (1990) 04 07 15 Speed Of Sound/Coldplay On The Verge: Everything To Me/Liz Phair 09 08 06 We Belong Together/Mariah Carey On The Verge: Right Here/Staind 10 09 04 Only You/Josh Kelley 11 10 04 Get To Me/Train 12 11 03 Cool/Gwen Stefani Flashback Track - the 80s: I Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That/Elton John (1988) 14 12 02 Wordplay/Jason Mraz On The Verge: One Love/Hottie & The Blowfish XX 13 01 Good Is Good/Sheryl Crow XX 14 01 Listen To Your Heart/D.H.T. 08 15 10 Hollaback Girl/Gwen Stefani
Dropped: #13: A Lifetime/Better Than Ezra (12 weeks) #15: Lonely No More/Rob Thomas (25+ weeks)
Other than the Lifehouse song, it's clear that this chart has a much faster turnover rate than the R&R Hot AC chart. But that's cool, since that adds the element of surprise to the show. It would be sort of boring to know what was coming up next, right? I was glad that they decided to run three On The Verge songs this week and, to my best of knowledge, none of them are songs that have been featured as OTV tracks before.

Nice selection of Flashback songs here. It's so nice when these types of shows play older songs that truly haven't been heard in years.

I must say that this looks more like the R&R Hot AC chart than it has in longer than I care to remember. Notice that there are no songs on the chart that are barely on the HAC chart (i.e. "Switch" by Will Smith). Almost every song on the chart is in the Top 20 on the R&R chart and even the one that isn't, the D.H.T. song, is at #22 and one of the biggest movers on the chart (I'm talking about the corresponding August 26 chart), and on the September 2 chart, it moves up to #18 so, unless an oddball song debuts on the chart next week, the chart should consist wholly of songs in R&R's Top 20, something that hasn't happened for a long time. I still don't see how Green Day and 3 Doors Down dropped from the chart when they still had months left on the R&R chart, but whatever.

If they would have played Wake Me When September Ends/Green Day, there would have been two songs with September references.

LC TC wc SONG/ARTIST 01 01 12 Behind These Hazel Eyes/Kelly Clarkson 03 02 11 You'll Think Of Me/Keith Urban 04 03 15 Better Now/Collective Soul 05 04 08 This Is How A Heart Breaks/Rob Thomas 02 05 27 You And Me/Lifehouse 06 06 10 Holiday/Green Day 11 07 04 Cool/Gwen Stefani 09 08 05 Only You/Josh Kelley 10 09 05 Get To Me/Train 08 10 07 We Belong Together/Mariah Carey 07 11 16 Speed Of Sound/Coldplay 13 12 02 Good Is Good/Sheryl Crow 14 13 02 Listen To Your Heart/D.H.T. 12 14 03 Wordplay/Jason Mraz XX 15 01 One Love/Hootie & The Blowfish
Dropped: #15: Hollaback Girl
On The Verge: Bad Day/Daniel Powter Beverly Hills/Weezer
Flashback Tracks: The 80s: Eye Of The Tiger/Survivor The 90s: I'll Make Love To You/Boyz II Men
Well, for the first time in longer than I care to remember, every song on this chart can be found in R&R's Top 20 (the September 2 chart) as Hootie & The Blowfish enter both the VH-1 and the upper half of the R&R chart. The songs that are still on R&R's chart but have left the VH-1 chart are #4: Lonely No More/Rob Thomas #6: Let Me Go/Lifehouse #11: Boulevard Of Broken Dreams/Green Day #13: Collide/Howie Day
There's a fifth song in R&R's Top 20 that actually hasn't yet made it to the VH-1 chart. The song is "Forever" by Vertical Horizon and it is at #20 on the R&R chart, up one spot. I'm not sure if it'll make the VH-1 chart or not, since it's in its fifteenth week on the R&R chart. We'll have to see whether or not it sneaks in a week. The biggest difference between the two charts is Keith Urban's everlasting hit. It moves into the runner-up position on VH-1 while it's at #15 on the R&R chart, but even there, it moves up three spots and takes the biggest gainer. I wouldn't be surprised to see the song on top of the VH-1 countdown within the next few weeks. I'm actually starting to like the song. It sure took long enough, huh? Another song that I've recently found myself starting to like is the oldest song on the survey, "You And Me" by Lifehouse. The song falls from 2 to 5 on the chart. Looks like this might be another hit to drop from the VH-1 chart months before going recurrent on the R&R chart. But you never know. Maroon 5's "She Will Be Loved" moved down the chart rather slowly back in March, so Lifehouse might do the same. My favorite song on the chart, Gwen Stefani's "Cool" takes the biggest jump of the week, moving from 11 to 7, catching up with its progress on the R&R chart. Hopefully, the song will go to number one on both charts. I'm still a little PO'ed that it's already done at Pop - and that it never made AT40's Top Ten! >:( Well, hopefully, the chart will stay like the R&R chart for awhile. Maybe now that the summer's over, things will stabilize (Will Smith's "Switch" was sort of a summer-like hit, which might have something to do with why it made the chart despite never reaching above #39 on R&R). We'll have to see what happens next week.

Well, my station is airing the same show as last week, so I won't be able to post the full list this week. Using the stoneage.yes website, I was able to piece together some of the list from WTIC (the station that Michael1973 listens to), but it looks like they may have had some sort of talk program during the 6:00 hour and then after the first hour of Rewind, they went into some 80s program. So here's what looks like it would have been Hour 1:
LC TC SONG/ARTIST XX 15 Have A Nice Day/Bon Jovi 11 14 Speed Of Sound/Coldplay 15 13 One Love/Hootie & The Blowfish 08 12 Only You/Josh Kelley Flashback Track - the 90s: Give Me One Reason/Tracy Chapman 13 11 Listen To Your Heart/D.H.T 12 10 Good Is Good/Sheryl Crow On The Verge: Photograph/Nickelback 10 09 We Belong Together/Mariah Carey
That's all I have for the time being. If someone would like to post the rest of the list for me, that would be great. Or else let me know if there's a major market station that carries the show. That way, I can go on the stoneage.yes site and find out what remainder the list looks like by the songs played.

Dammit, for the second week in a row, WCNF The Coast ran the September 10 edition of the VH-1 Weekly Rewind! And, what's worse, it looks like WTIC in Hartford, the only large market station that carries the show, didn't air it today, since when I checked the stoneage.yes website, there were a bunch of 80s songs run before AT20. In other words, they just ran regular programming, since I recently found out from Michael1973 that they do 80s music during the weekend. For these reasons, I cannot post the chart this weekend. I'll keep my eyes on the stoneage.yes website in case WTIC now runs the show following AT20, but I wouldn't lay any money on it.

It doesn't look good for the show's future on WTIC, since they aired BackTracks USA in its place this past weekend.

Yeah, I'm wondering if they've had to suddenly halt production of the show, and WCNF just doesn't know it yet. I'll still continue to listen for a new show, but I wouldn't get my hopes up. If the situation is that they're not reliable in mailing the show out, The Coast might very well drop the show. I sure hope that doesn't happen before the end of the year, since I'd love to see how the year-end chart looks. Too bad they don't have a website with the chart posted.

I e-mailed the Program Director of 94.9 The Coast yesterday and he got back to me. He said "They had a technical glitch that should be fixed now." Now, exactly who "they" is I don't know, whether it's the company that distributes the VH-1 Weekly Rewind (which could explain why WTIC ran Backtrax USA in its timeslot this past Sunday) or the station. If it were the former, that might also account for WTIC running only the first half of the September 18 show. Maybe 94.9 The Coast got only the first CD and didn't want to run a half-assed show, so they decided to just re-run the previous week's show.
Either way, the PD said that the glitch should be fixed and to be sure to check it out this weekend, so I should be able to once again post the chart (but it won't be in this forum, since it'll be October). I thought that this situation would once again take out the Weeks On Chart column, but, with the help of stoneage.net, where I checked WTIC's playlist on Sunday morning, I should be able to keep it up. As long as I know which of the "new" songs are debuts, there should be no problem.
Anyway, I just thought I'd pass the news on to everyone.
