Curious to think what song you think will be the next #1 song on Hot AC. Lifehouse and Kelly Clarkson are both losing spins. Rob Thomas and Gwen Stefani are slowly ticking upward. Nickleback are coming on strong. What do you think?

It'll most likely be Nickelback :( but Green Day may prevent them from being there for long :)

Nickelback, than Rob Thomas (Ever The Same), Green Day will hold at #2 and #3 until Christmas.

Rob Thomas will get it for a couple weeks, then Green Day. Green Day is currently on pace to jump over Nickelback before Nickelback will have a chance to grab #1.

In a perfect world, it would be Kate Bush's King Of The Mountain hehe.

Could we be forgetting Lifehouse-Blind? I don't think Santana\Branch have the power to even go Top 4, but you never know. However, their could always be a dark horse like Better Days....or something else. I don't think ANY of us would have thought Give A Little Bit would do what it did, then again, I thought it sounded like a Christmas Song...I swear Annie Lennox sang it as one once or something.

Looks like Rob Thomas may get a few weeks, then it's a toss up between Nickelback and Green Day, I think Nickelback will have the longer staying power though. I think the Green Day hype will die down in a few months as their album comes to an end (on Hot AC probably anyway). Looking towards January-February (who know's how long it could be with Hot AC) best chances are "Because of You," I think "Better Days" will go top 5, but not #1.

Not for a little bit here, but I think CS will eventually go #1 w/ "How Do You Love?" It just need more stations to jump on it... it's already +200, and that doesn't happen for nothing on HAC.
Also, if Trapt releases "Waiting" this winter, I think that's a smash waiting (no pun intended) to happen. A good dark horse bet.

Another thing to keep in mind is Alanis is a darkhorse contender with "Crazy." I know you're all thinking "Alanis, in 2006, no way!" But keep this in mind: the holiday season of the past two years has a remake by a semi-written off act top the charts. No one thought Goo Goo Dolls would go to #1 with "Give A Little Bit," but they did. The previous year it was Sheryl Crow with "The First Cut Is The Deepest." So that's why I won't completely rule out Alanis with this particular song. Granted it wouldn't be the next #1, but come late December/January she just might sneak in there.

The First Cut Is The Deepest did not hit #1 on HAC. In the winter of 2003-2004, Santana's Why Don't You & I and 3 Doors Down's Here Without You were atop the chart...

Didn't it on Billboard's Adult Top 40 chart though?

Didn't it on Billboard's Adult Top 40 chart though? No clue, but since we were talking about the HAC chart, I assumed you meant that chart...

Didn't it on Billboard's Adult Top 40 chart though? No clue, but since you're talking about the HAC chart in the subject of this topic, I was just pointing out that it was not a #1 song. Well regardless, Sheryl was definitely within striking distance, which brings us back to my point... Alanis could be too, with this year's token remake.

Does anyone remember where Sheryl peaked on the HAC chart? I know she peaked at #2 on AC, but on HAC, I can't remember...

I'm pretty sure First Cut went to #3, and at one point was #2 but didn't make it by the update.
As far as Alanis, yeah, I don't know, it's a real hit or miss, it really depends on her marketing.

First cut peaked at #2.
Alanis... gee, it'd be great to see her do it, but she is definatly worse off then Sheryl or GGD ever were.

Yes, "First Cut" peaked at #1 on Billboard ("Adult Top 40" and "Hot AC" are the same thing), as did Nickelback's "Someday". Each song spent 1 week at #1 in the following order:
Here Without You [final week] First Cut Is The Deepest Someday My Immortal
And "First Cut" also peaked at #1 on Billboard's AC chart.
Back to the topic, I have a feeling Rob will jump Nickelback and Santana/Branch at the last possible moment, making it ultra-tough for either of those to wait out Rob.

Do you mean Ever The Same, or This Is How A Heart Breaks, I think This Is How A Heart Breaks is about done, and by mid-October, Ever The Same will easily have an adds date, probably slated for the first week of November. The video is shot and thier has yet to be a rock-ballad for this coming late fall\early winter.

The First Cut Is The Deepest peaked at #2, though I was hoping for #1.
"Cool" could take one week, but it's looking like it won't, so I'll say Green Day.
To bad Sheryl's new song is going no where!!!!!

I meant "Ever The Same" will be #1 for a while, but I can't see that being the next #1. I'd have to go with Green Day on that one.

Now it looks like it will definitely be Green Day (+588) - almost sounds like a record high bullet on Hot AC, how common is a song to have a bullet that high?
