Whenever it is time to release one, call me crazy but I'd love to see "Something To Be" get released. It's awesome. It has feeling & passion and great lyrics. It could sell records, have a great video. It's really catchy too. It takes a few listens but it is like "Unwell" in 1 aspect, the more you hear it, the more you love it IMO!! Then "Ever The Same", & "This Is How A Heart Breaks" as 3 & 4.......... "Ever The Same" can be a hit anytime save it for fall. "This Is How.." is great but I feel would burn out faster than the title track... But really he can't go wrong with any of the 3 but I'm routing for "Something To Be"

I disagree with you.
I just don't see "Something To Be" being a single candidate. It may have the hook, but just having hooks alone don't always necessarily make strong singles.
Especially if Rob Thomas only intends to go three singles deep like apparently he says he wants to do. In that case, all three releases are very obvious to me, or at least "Streetcorner Symphony" is a wild card:
1) "Lonely No More" 2) "This Is How A Heart Breaks" 3) "Ever The Same"
I originally thought "Ever The Same" should be the second release seeing "Lonely No More" losing ground rapidly at Pop before coming to a pause, but now I think Rob should go ahead with another up-tempo single, "This Is How A Heart Breaks"
Then, he should close the record with a ballad.
Here's how I'd rank the remaining eleven tracks in terms of most radio-friendly to least radio-friendly:
*******Most Radio-Friendly Candidates*******
"This Is How A Heart Breaks" "Ever The Same" "Streetcorner Symphony" "Problem Girl"
*******More Or Less*******
"Something To Be" "I Am An Illusion" "When The Heartache Ends"
*******Non-Radio Friendly*******
"All That I Am" "Fallin' To Pieces" "My, My, My" "Now Comes The Night" (except maybe for AC)
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I find myself playing STB more than any song on the album. Even replaying it. Absolutely love that song! So I would love for this song to be heard on the radio. I do hope TIHAHB is the second single though. I went to see Rob in Columbus and that song soooooooo rocked live! It was amazing to hear so many in the crowd singing along to it since the album had just been released only days before.

I heard "When The Heartache Ends" on XM today...is this any indication? This song is very good. I wish they would give Problem Girl a shot. I really don't like This Is How A Heart Breaks because of the back-up singers, they sound lame.

I really don't like This Is How A Heart Breaks because of the back-up singers, they sound lame. It's okay, "When The Heartache Ends" just isn't a standout track to me. And "Ever The Same" is the stronger of the two ballads I also feel. Yeah, Greater Anointing are featured on three tracks: "Lonely No More", "This Is How A Heart Breaks" and "Streetcorner Symphony". Who knows, that might just be the single release strategy! ;) Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I agree on everything but STB to me has meaning to me and I feel it will to America to. It's like "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" kind of thing. I think it's super catchy. The chorus, the Hey Man parts, lyrics, and the ending... But LOVE "TIHAHB" & "ETS" too. I think Atlantic should go 4

Something To Be, i have only listened to it once, but if it's the name of the album, I'm sure they have plans for an eventual release.

TIHAHB is, according to Rob, the next single. He's filming the video in June in NYC. After the great exposure as the theme song for the NBA Finals, this song should do great.

This will be a #1 Hot AC smash for Rob but it's a matter of when. Hell, they could release it next week, and I wouldn't doubt he would replace himself at #1. The real question is, who is going to replace Rob at #1? I really can't see anybody, maybe 3 Doors Down, but that's about it. We'll have to see.

The real question is, who is going to replace Rob at #1? I really can't see anybody, maybe 3 Doors Down, but that's about it. We'll have to see. You know, I thought 3 Doors Down would be the likely artist to replace him first, but with this huge LNM rebound happening and looking as though "Let Me Go" has went as far up as it can move on the Pop chart, I no longer see them having a shot. It looks like they'll lose spins before Rob does...for real this time! :) Lifehouse, on the other hand, they might pull it off here, but it'll all depend on how persistent "You & Me" is at CHR/Pop. It looks like it's going to indeed go Top 20 possibly, but they may need to go further than that if they want the golden #1 spot. Other than Coldplay possibly, I don't see any other single on the current chart likely to go #1. It could very well be Rob Thomas who replaces him. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

According to Rob in a recent interview, he said that TIHAHB is the next single. I'm glad, because I didn't love that song at first, and now I can't stop listening to it.

I'm glad this is the 2nd single... It does ROCK!! & is super catchy!! Plus it's the NBA Play-Off Theme Song now. This should go #1 at Hot/Modern AC and hit the Top 10 at Pop. It might sound funny but Rob actually has 7 hits on this cd. Other bands would love to have his 5th best single as their lead off singles,LOL :)
"Lonely No More", "This Is How A Heart Breaks", "Ever The Same", "Something To Be", "Problem Girl", "Street Corner Symphony" & "When The Heartache Ends".... All 7 of them are Top 10 Hot Ac hits if you ask me I'd like to see him get 4 or 5 of them out!!!

My Hot AC station played TIHAHB today. I had my window open at work and with it being Summer in Cleveland, of course there is noisy street construction going on outside. But something on the radio caught my ear so I turned it up and there was TIHAHB. I couldn't believe it. Here we go!

Rob Thomas and his label have made the right choice here releasing this instead of "Ever The Same". Because "Lonely No More" had an incredible U-turn which is making that single Top-10 bound now at Pop, it only makes sense to continue with the up-tempo formula another time around before you hit home with a ballad for the good of album longevity. I really don't feel any competition at all currently on the Hot AC chart (unless 3 Doors Down hurry and rush their next ballad! ) especially with Green Day currently preoccupied with "Holiday" as their destined hit "Wake Me Up When September Ends" is only beginning to be promoted, so I have to say this is bound for the top too. My Prediction: #1Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Don't count out Sheryl Crow's new one. Who knows what waves it could cause on HAC radio!

Don't count out Sheryl Crow's new one. Who knows what waves it could cause on HAC radio! You're right, that'll be big too. She'll be one of his most closest competitors I think, and, if Anna Nalick could avoid a Five For Fighting slump, her next single "In The Rough" might come out strong too. Other than that, Rob Thomas has no real thorns on his side. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

NEW YORK, NY -- (Market Wire - Jun 06, 2005) --
On tap is the second single from "...SOMETHING TO BE," which will be the album's high-energy opening track, "This Is How A Heart Breaks." The song is set to impact Hot AC and Triple A outlets on June 13th, with CHR/Pop to follow. Following the #1 success at VH1 for the video of "Lonely No More," Thomas is preparing to shoot the companion clip for "This Is How A Heart Breaks." Set on the streets of New York City, the cinematic, action-filled video is being directed by Pedro Romhanyi, who directed matchbox twenty's #1-charting videos for "Bent" and "If You're Gone."

That's great! :)
I hope the video has a gritty feel to it, a lot of vibrancy in its directing and such.

Will the rushed release of this new single kill LNM's chances at holding onto #1 on HAC for multiple double-digit weeks? Or better yet, will it kill LNM's shot at being the #1 HAC song of 2005?
Lifehouse is quickly starting to get to the top with LNM holding on tightly. I'm not sure what HAC PDs will do with two Rob Thomas singles. It could be like MB20 - both of them in the top 10, or perhaps not. MB20's Unwell still has the recurrent airplay of any of their singles, and with lots of other recurrents from the band on HAC, there might be too much Rob Thomas to settle for two currents and a handful of recurrents.
I would guess HAC would give up on a current before they abandon their staple recurrents. We'll just have to see! :)

Yeah he'll be fine. Alot of stations will play the play the new cut aroiund 20 times with LNM in high power and graually swap them. They make it work for Rob. Example of what some Pd's would do to make room.... Push- from 7spins to 4 3am from 8 to 3 Real World from 4 to 2 Back 2 Good from 2 to 1 Bent from 5 to 3 If You're Gone from 6 to 3 Mad Season from 2 to 0 Disease from 2 to 0 Unwell from 13 to 8 Bright LIghts from 14 to 8 Smooth from 5 to 3 Lonely No More from 43 to 34 That's like 41 spins you open up...

Looking at ultra's list of MB20/Santana/Rob songs, I wonder how much Rob has made in royalties over the last 9 years. I remember reading a few years ago that he had made at least 5M for his half-share of the songwriting on Smooth alone. I also remember an article where Rob was named one of the 50 most influential people under 35 where a spokesperson for BMI (?) said that Rob's royalties were right up there at the top. I wouldn't doubt that he's at least raked in 20M or more in royalties. Smooth was a smash international hit and Unwell and LNM also did well internationally.
Just saw some pictures of Rob's video shoot. He's running down a NYC street, dodging cars, and climbing fire escape ladders. Hope they can tie the video in with the fell of TIHAHB. Rob needs this song to do well to help maintain some record sales. Gettyimages.com has some pictures if you are interested. Just search for Rob Thomas.

Especially since I was just reading Rolling Stone's article entitled "Rock's 50 Biggest Moneymakers". Very interesting. I was so surprised to see how much money some older artists make on royalties for songs from a decade or two ago. Rod Stewart made $3 million in 2004 on publishing revenue for past hits. Simon & Garfunkel earned $4 million. Van Halen nearly $2 million. I don't hear a lot of those artists on my station but I hear a ton of Rob/MB20/Santana featuring RT. Today my station played Push TWICE, Bent, Unwell, LNM and TIHAHB. Wow! Rob Thomas must be richer than God! Good for him!

I think Rob will be fine, Unwell, LNM, and This is How a Heart Breaks sounds completely different from one another. He should be fine with Ever The Same as well. No doubt in my mind he'll do just fine. We all saw Maroon 5 recently just juggle two Top 5 showings at once. Heck, they had three Top 20 singles at one time on AC. Rob Thomas has already established himself with his band as perhaps THE Hot AC artist, and they're not going to let him down now. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

This week "This Is How A Heart Breaks" is second most added with 21 adds. It debuts at #37. The best news is that it doesn't officially go for adds until Tuesday.

I think it's just the poppier sound of LNM that is taking away from its longevity. But Rob and MB20 are to HAC what U2 is to AAA... I think Green Day's got the song of the year in the bag, but LNM still will have plenty of life left in it.
