Now, here's the August 13/14 chart:
LC TC SONG/ARTIST XX 15 Get To Me/Train XX 14 Only You/Josh Kelley 15 13 We Belong Together/Mariah Carey 11 12 Chariot/Gavin DeGraw Flashback Track: I Want Your Sex/George Michael (1987) 07 11 Lonely No More/Rob Thomas 13 10 Holiday/Green Day On The Verge: Stars/Switchfoot 09 09 This Is How A Heart Breaks/Rob Thomas 10 08 Better Now/Collective Soul On The Verge: Listen To Your Heart/D.H.T. 04 07 Breathe/Anna Nalick Flashback Track: Kiss From A Rose/Seal 08 06 Behind These Hazel Eyes/Kelly Clarkson 06 05 Hollaback Girl/Gwen Stefani 05 04 You'll Think Of Me/Keith Urban 03 03 A Lifetime/Better Than Ezra 01 02 Speed Of Sound/Coldplay 02 01 You And Me/Lifehouse
Dropped: #12: American Baby/Dave Matthews Band #14: Since U Been Gone/Kelly Clarkson
Well, Lifehouse returns to the top for a third time with "You And Me". This marks their fifth non-consecutive week at the top. They first arrived there in mid-June and stayed on top for two weeks, only to be ousted by the Dave Matthews Band with "American Baby". Then, after DMB spent a single week on top, Lifehouse enjoyed another pair of weeks on top before being unseated by Coldplay. They also stayed on top for two weeks and now Lifehouse return. My guess is that they'll spend another week up there and then someone else (perhaps Better Than Ezra?) will succeed them. We'll have to wait and see. As you can see, D.H.T.'s version of "Listen To Your Heart" was one of this week's On The Verge tracks. The strange thing is, they played a slow version of the song ("Listen To Your Heart (Candlelight Mix)", perhaps?) You'd think that the Hot AC audience would prefer to hear the upbeat version of the song. Maybe now that there's a slow version, AC radio will jump on it. Sounds feasible, since many of the AC audience would remember the Roxette version, since it was a big hit on both the CHR and AC chart back in the fall of 1989. Well, in the next few weeks, I'll be adding a "weeks on chart" column to this feature. That will be as soon as "Lonely No More" falls off the chart, since that's the last of the fifteen songs that were charting when I started taking notes on this show back in March. I'm sure that, sometime in the next few months, a song or two that was charting before March 12 will re-appear on the chart. I'll just improvise for the "weeks on chart" in that event. Or maybe we'll luck out and that won't happen. As I said, we'll have to see.

Meh, average chart this week, with the biggest move being a song that moves up three spots (however, considering how high up on the chart it is, that's pretty good). Kelly Clarkson's "Behind These Hazel Eyes" could finally settle the big battle between Coldplay and Lifehouse, the former of which recaptures the top spot. My favorite song this week is the only debut. After being "On The Verge" a few weeks back, "Cool" by Gwen Stefani debuts at 15. Ten spots higher is her other hit "Hollaback Girl". Will "Cool" suffer recurrent-itis from this song? I sure hope not. In what has become a trend of late, Joy Williams joins Stacie Orrico and MercyMe in crossing over from Christian contemporary music to pop. Her new song "We" is On The Verge this week, along with the latest by Simple Plan, who have been here several times before.

Well, the back and forth battle between Lifehouse and Coldplay is over. For the first time since July 4 weekend, there is a different number one song besides those two, and it is Kelly Clarkson's "Behind These Hazel Eyes". And, if my memory serves me correctly, this is her third consecutive number one song on this countdown (unless "Breakaway" didn't quite make it). And, she might be in for a long stay at the top, that is, unless "You And Me" still has enough juice left in it to return to the top, or Keith Urban is strong enough to hit #1. With the VH-1 Weekly Rewind, anything is possible. My favorite song on here takes the biggest leap up and that, of course, is "Cool" by Gwen Stefani. And her last hit, "Hollaback Girl" seems to be affected by the success of "Cool", as it also moves three spots, but in the other direction. The biggest drop on the chart is "A Lifetime" by Better Than Ezra. Now, since I'm way behind on checking on R&R's Hot AC charts, I have no idea how well it's doing on that but, whatever the case is, it can't be anymore ridiculous than "Let Me Go" by 3 Doors Down leaving the VH-1 chart while the song was still riding high in the top three of the R&R chart. Starting next week, I will have a brand-new feature on the chart. Many of you may already know what it is, but if you don't, well, you'll find out next week!
