And now, the chart from July 9, which I got done listening to about an hour ago: LC TC SONG/ARTIST XX 15 Holiday/Green Day XX 14 Switch/Will Smith 15 13 Hollaback Girl/Gwen Stefani 08 12 Boulevard Of Broken Dreams Flashback Track - The 90s: Losing My Religion/R.E.M. (1991)12 11 Behind These Hazel Eyes/Kelly Clarkson 10 10 Better Now/Collective Soul On The Verge: Only You/Josh Kelley13 09 You'll Think Of Me/Keith Urban 06 08 Since U Been Gone/Kelly Clarkson On The Verge: We Belong Together/Mariah Carey09 07 A Lifetime/Better Than Ezra Flashback Track - The 80s: Don't You Want Me/The Human League (1982)01 06 American Baby/Dave Matthews Band 07 05 Chariot/Gavin DeGraw 03 04 Lonely No More/Rob Thomas 04 03 Breathe (2am)/Anna Nalick 05 02 Speed Of Sound/Coldplay 02 01 You And Me/Lifehouse Dropped: #11: Let Me Go/3 Doors Down (Whatever! ) #14: Mr. Brightside/The Killers This chart is totally messed up! Why is "Let Me Go" dropping out again when it clearly still has a lot of life left in it on the other AC charts? The same goes with "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams", although at least it's still on the chart. What's with "American Baby" plunging from 1 all the way down to #6? Did everyone all of a sudden get tired of it at the same time or something? Keith Urban is the biggest mover on the chart (13-9) when it's not even in the Top 30 of the R&R chart, and with not too big of a gain? How did that happen? AND WHAT THE F--- IS "SWITCH" BY WILL SMITH DOING ON THE CHART??!!??!! That song is NOWHERE on the R&R Hot AC chart, and not even in New & Active. This is supposed to be a Hot AC countdown and playing songs so out of format like that is just asking for trouble. Many Hot AC stations don't want to play rap songs and might drop the show if songs like start hitting the charts. I expected songs like "This Is How A Heart Breaks" by Rob Thomas and "Wordplay" by Jason Mraz to hit the chart this week. Instead, we get a loud, obnoxious rap song debuting and a country song that came out nearly two years ago making the biggest move of the week. What's in store for next week? I'm almost too afraid to find out. But I guess we will about this time next week. Well, I gotta go now and break out one of my old AT20 HAC shows and try to remember what a real Hot AC show sounds like because, frankly, I don't know what format this show is anymore. Later.

02 01 You And Me/Lifehouse Dropped: #11: You And Me/Lifehouse (Whatever! ) Wow, so You and Me can be both #1 and a dropper? Yikes. ;)
Well, keep in mind that this is the VH-1 Weekly Rewind that we're talking about. Anything's possible. I'll bet that song will show up twice on the year-end chart a la "Bright Lights" by Matchbox Twenty on Rick Dees' Hot AC Top 100 of 2004. No, seriously, I always get Lifehouse and 3 Doors Down confused for some reason. So instead, it's "Let Me Go" that drops out even though it's riding high on the other Hot AC charts (R&R, Billboard, etc.) I still can't get over how messed up it is for Will Smith to be on there. It was bad enough for them to be playing R&B songs as 90s Flashbacks. Must have been an omen of things to come! :o

I can just see it now:
VH1 weekly countdown: Keith Urban and Will Smith battle it out for the top spot MTV countdown: Beethoven scores a #1 with an oldie but a goodie CMT countdown: Snoop Dogg breaks the chart longevity record BET countdown: Casting Crowns debut at #1 and spend the whole year there
Gotta love video network countdowns on the radio!

When I heard the first few songs on this countdown, I swore they were repeating last week's broadcast. But, when I heard the first Flashback Track, which wasn't "Losing My Religion" by R.E.M., I concluded that it was just a damn slow chart. Now, seeing as absolutely no songs change positions this week (and I haven't yet added the "weeks on chart" column), I'm going to just list the "On The Verge" tracks, as well as the Flashback Tracks.
Flashback Track - The 80s: Who's Johnny/El DeBarge Flashback Track - The 90s: I Swear/All-4-One On The Verge: Get To Me/Train On The Verge: Statue/Low Millions
So, for those of you who keep notes on this show, refer to last week's chart, make the LW and TW column the same, and write down the "extra" songs listed above and, voila! You'll have this week's show.
Hopefully, there'll be some movement next week. Perhaps "Since U Been Gone" will experience early termination, like Green Day and 3 Doors Down did not too long ago?

Seriously, no movements at all? How odd (and boring)... Yes, seriously, no movements whatsoever. As I said, until I heard the first "extra", I thought that the new show didn't make it to the station in time and, like many radio stations do when this happens, they aired the same one as last week, but that was not the case. Indeed it is odd - this is the first time I ever remember this happening on any countdown show (though it may have happened on AT10 once), and indeed boring (at least AT10 has 20-some extras). But since I was at the beach today, I listened to it sort of intermittently, so I wasn't really paying much attention to the lack of movement until I compared it to last week's chart.

Does AT 10 really have 20 or so extras?
Hmm.. strange for them to put even more x-tras in then the amount of songs in the damn countdown :S

Yes, AT20 does indeed have 20-some extras. This week, for instance, there were 26 extras. It does seem strange for them to put more extras than countdown songs, but that's representative of most AC stations, which never play more than three current songs per hour.

LC TC SONG/ARTIST XX 15 This Is How A Heart Breaks/Rob Thomas 15 14 Holiday/Green Day 14 13 Switch/Will Smith 13 12 Hollaback Girl/Gwen Stefani Flashback Track - The 80s: New Sensation/INXS (1988)11 11 Behind These Hazel Eyes/Kelly Clarkson 10 10 Better Now/Collective Soul Flashback Track - The 90s: Fly/Sugar Ray (1997)08 09 Since U Been Gone/Kelly Clarkson 09 08 You'll Think Of Me/Keith Urban On The Verge: These Words/Natasha Bedingfield06 07 American Baby/Dave Matthews Band Flashback Track - the 90s: Semi-Charmed Life/Third-Eye Blind (1997)07 05 A Lifetime/Better Than Ezra 05 04 Chariot/Gavin DeGraw 03 03 Breathe/Anna Nalick 01 02 You And Me/Lifehouse 02 01 Speed Of Sound/Coldplay Dropped: #12: Boulevard Of Broken Dreams/Green Day(okayyyy! ) Well, at least there's SOME movement on this chart, which is more than can be said for last week's frozen chart. I was thinking that maybe that was due to a computer error or something and there might be a big shake-up this week, but apparently, that was not to be. My biggest complaint about this show was the fact that they played three Flashback Tracks and only one On The Verge. The Sugar Ray song is the one that didn't make sense, since there had already been a Flashback Track in the first hour and they were the spotlight artist (or something like that). Uh, why didn't they just play Sugar Ray's latest song "Shot Of Laughter"? Isn't that gaining HAC airplay? Even if it wasn't, neither is "Switch" by Will Smith and he's all the way up at #13. I was glad to see "Speed Of Sound" at number one this week. That's one of my favorite songs on the chart this week.

LC TC SONG/ARTIST 01 01 Speed Of Sound/Coldplay 02 02 You And Me/Lifehouse 03 03 Breathe/Anna Nalick 05 04 A Lifetime/Better Than Ezra 08 05 You'll Think Of Me/Keith Urban 12 06 Hollaback Girl/Gwen Stefani Flashback Track - the 80s: Jessie's Girl/Rick Springfield (1981) 06 07 Lonely No More/Rob Thomas On The Verge: Don't Phunk With My Heart/The Black-Eyed Peas 04 08 Chariot/Gavin DeGraw 11 09 Behind These Hazel Eyes/Kelly Clarkson On The Verge: Inside Your Heaven/Carrie Underwood 10 10 Better Now/Collective Soul 07 11 American Baby/Dave Matthews Band Flashback Track - the 90s: End Of The Road/Boyz II Men (1992) 09 12 Since U Been Gone/Kelly Clarkson 15 13 This Is How A Heart Breaks/Rob Thomas 14 14 Holiday/Green Day XX 15 We Belong Together/Mariah Carey
Dropped: Switch/Will Smith (YES!)
A rather average chart this week, although "Hollaback Girl" by Gwen Stefani moves up a huge six spots. I'm not sure how it's doing on the R&R HAC chart, but that probably doesn't matter, since this chart is no longer comparable to it. I understand that "American Baby" by the Dave Matthews Band takes a huge drop on the R&R AC chart used for this week's AT20. It also takes a dive on this chart, down four to number eleven. It'll probably be out of there pretty soon. A song that is outta here is "Switch" by Will Smith. Of course, that song should never have made the chart in the first place, since I don't think it's even in R&R HAC New & Active. Replacing the song on the chart is "We Belong Together" by Mariah Carey, a former On The Verge track and a much better song IMO.
