Apparently, the decade ended after 1985...

Yeah, what the heck is that all about.
The one song from after 1985, "Red Red Wine", was actually first a hit in 1984.
Perhaps they're alternating halves of the decade on the show. Since they played songs from 1981-1985, perhaps they'll play 1986-1989 (with a few 1990 songs mixed in perhaps) next week.
Personally, I think they should have done Backtrax USA like this back in the mid-late 1990s, since all the songs were at least ten years old.

In the early days of the show, that's exactly how it was. You almost never heard songs from after 1986.

Actually, when I started listening to the show, it was an hour long (I think) and it focused on a particular year. They played random songs from that year and ended it with the top three songs of the same week of that year (i.e. In late July, 1993, they spotlighted 1984 and played the top three songs of late July, 1984 at the end).
I have no idea when they started just playing music from any year during the 1980s - sometime between July, 1993, when I managed to tune in a station that aired the show (weird atmospheric conditions made it possible for me to tune in a station from western Ohio), and April, 1995, when U93 picked up on it.
So, was it all a mix of 1980-1985 at one point?

I gave up "Backtraxx USA" quite awhile ago..
It seems to play the same 20 overplayed 80's hits week after week..
I don't think I can stand to hear "Too Shy", "Centerfold", or "Tainted Love" EVER again!

I first heard the show in the summer of 1994. I didn't realize it was around prior to that. The first time I heard it, I didn't even realize it was a syndicated show because Kid Kelly had worked briefly on my local station that same year.
This also came at a time when it was rare to hear a lot of 1980's pop songs on the radio. It seems strange to think about it now, but a lot of today's overplayed 80's songs were actually pretty rare in 1994!
