This is slowly starting to pick up at AAA and the video outlets. I think it definitely deserves success and can see this being a slow-burning hit.
Any adds date yet?

VH1 has been playing the heck out of this video, that's for sure. When they want the viewers to like a certain artist, they like to shove them down our throats, don't they? Case in point, Joss Stone.

I totally forgot about Jamie Cullum. You're absolutely right. He's good and I don't need VH1 to tell me that and force him down my throat.

how popular is Keane in England? I read that their latest album was #1 for four weeks in a row? Is this accurate?
As far as me, I really like this a lot, reminds me of the Scientist, but I think I like it a little better. I have yet to figure out a chart predicition for this. I don't think it will do well, but now that it has an adds date I'm hoping that it can pull Top 15 on Hot AC.

This sounds a lot like Coldplay... which is why I don't like it.

I know that the Coldplay comparisons are all over, but I don't get it. Truly. Tom Chaplin's tenor is rich and resonant, and he sounds nothing like Chris Martin, who frequently relies on falsetto. As rkwo points out in another thread, Keane doesn't have a guitarist, and relies on piano and drums. I also think Keane's sound is more 60s and a little more pop than Coldplay's is.
Anyway, I really like this song. I hope it gets picked up on Hot AC -- it is already doing pretty well on AAA, and it is getting some spins on the Alternative format, too.
ETA: I don't know how popular they are in England, but they just made the Mercury Prize Shortlist, which is a pretty big deal (it's kind of like the British Grammy for Album of the Year).

I think this is boring, a lot like how I thought the Jamie Cullum song was boring a couple of months ago. So it could possibly grow on me, I guess.

I still don't see how people consider music boring.
Then again, I listen to music for the sake of listening to music, not to be greatly entertained.

KNDD was playing this for a while. Did it do anything on Alternative?
It's OK. I was kinda surprised any alternative station would play it since it seemed too soft. But I suppose it's no less soft than a Coldplay song. Anyway, the hook does get a bit annoying, mainly with the singer's emphasis on the word "this" ("Thhhhhhisss could be the end...") But I guess the lyrics are decent enough for me to like it.
Although, I think the video really sucks. That CGI forest/city background make the song seem so impersonal. It's like nobody had a good idea for what to do, so someone suggested to have the band play in front of a green screen, and let animators do the rest.

No doubt about it: Coldplay's success in America sure opened a lot of doors to this kind of epic neo-traditional brit-pop.

I'm really starting to like "Everybody's Changing" a lot more than "SOWL." I think EC could be a decent sized HAC hit here if SOWK can pave the road for it a little...

Wow, this song was excellent. Great producing, definitely. Yeah, Keane is pretty popular in the UK (check www.bbc.co.uk/totp/). Actually, I don't think Keane and Coldplay sound similar at all, and I really don't think compairing artists is a good idea either. I think they both have different sounds (especially vocally). Go Keane! P.S. Does anyone have a link to hear Everybody's Changing? Jeez, I want to hear that single.

Here's a live session they did for BBC 6 Music, Everybody's Changing is one of the tracks: www.bbc.co.uk/6music/artists/keane.shtml And there's 3 videos from their Glastonbury 2004 performance here: music.guide.real.com/archive :)

I can't stop listening to "Everybody's Changing"! It's eclipsing SOWK for me. I really hope EC becomes a US single. Actually, I'm sure it'll be the second single I just hope it gets picked up at least as much as SOWK has.

Keane is Launch.com's Emerging Artist of the Month, and Hopes and Fears is up to #53 on the Billboard top-200 this week, with 20,500 copies sold. Spins are picking up nicely on Hot AC, as well as on Alternative, while "Somewhere Only We Know" is still bulleted on AAA. Looking good! I really like this song, hope it gets more and more attention.

It didn't hit me the first time I heard Keane but after buying their album and listening to it non-stop, it finally hit me. They sound more like Travis than Coldplay especially the lead singer's voice. It's very similar to Fran Healy from Travis. I love both bands so that's a good similarity, at least for me. Go Keane!

At long last NYC's only HAC station, WPLJ, has added "SOWK."

I've always wondered that if large market city adds songs, does this usually influence others to follow their path? A lot of times it does, but not always. It's less likely since the Keane song is so old now, but usually if PLJ jumps on a new song right away, it is a good indication of what other stations will do in the following weeks.

At first I didn't want to hear this, because of everyone saying it was a Coldplay rip-off, and the snippets I've heard which were faily boring. But this is actually pretty good.

I really do love this song by Keane. I think they're even better then Coldplay, but thats just my opinion and I could be way wrong...
