This will be the third single from "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb"
Assuming "Vertigo" and "All Because of You" will taper off together down the chart, with the latter likely the one to go first, U2 may be looking at another hit here. ("All Because of You" is bulletless on all charts, including Triple A where "Vertigo" currently has a bullet.)
I'm predicting a second #1 for U2 off this single on Triple A. Its run on Hot AC is more questionable, though I wouldn't be suprised to see a run similar to "Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of".
Alternative radio will be less likely to receive this single, though with U2's ongoing amazing history of success to the format, this could peak in the Top 30 there.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I love this song! It's my favorite U2 single in over 10 years. I hope it's a huge success for them.

Was just listening to this album in the background as I read. Haven't listened to it too much but just had it on repeat for a couple of hours. Every time this song came on I had to check the CD player to see what track it was cuz I really like it.
Also, the song City of Blinding Lights sounds so familiar to me. Like an instrumental theme from a movie in the 60's or something. Does anyone else know the song I'm thinking of?

I agree with the praised comments on this track.
U2 have released many strong singles as of late, including the underplayed "Electrical Storm" and the moving "Walk On", but I have to say "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own" has got to be my favorite U2 single since "All I Want is You" perhaps. Definitely in my Top 10 favorite singles of theirs beneath only "With or Without You", "Bad", "Where the Streets Have No Name" and "Bullet the Blue Sky"
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Our station still plays that song a lot. Triple A was really the only format that deeply embraced the single (it topped the AAA chart) Alternative completely neglected it, however, and it tapered off fast at Hot AC, where it made a brief Top 20 appearance. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

This song is already starting out not only at the rock formats and pop, but also Adult Contemporary and... Urban and Rhythmic! :o I smell a smash!

"All Because of You" certainly isn't getting the push at Hot AC.
Looks like "SYCMIOYO" will be the next release for Hot AC.

WPLJ New York has added this already, a week early. I heard it last night while trying to go to sleep. Of course, that didn't help because I became wide awake after hearing the song, lol. Brilliant, brilliant song. I hope it does well.

So is there a radio version or is radio playing all 5+ minutes of the album version?

Finally, they release a good song from the album! Vertigo wasn't the greatest song IMO, but at least that was a decent first single. But All Because of You could have ruined the album. I hope that this can do stuff for them even though they pretentiously dedicated it to the tsunami victims, but that may help it.

This might be my favorite song on the album now. Initially it was between "Miracle Drug" and "A Man and a Woman," but this one just gets better and better. It's awesome.

This might be my favorite song on the album now. Yeah, same. It was competing with "Miracle Drug" and "Original of the Species," as my favorite, but this one is really beginning to distance itself. Incredible song. Rebirth Experience, thanks for the radio edit. Sounds like they just sped it up (but not so much that it sounds like the Chipmunks' version of the song). This is one of the few times that the radio edit works as well as the album version.

U2 Sometimes You Can't Make It on Your Own Producer(s): Chris Thomas, Steve Lillywhite, Nellee Hooper Writer(s): U2 Publisher(s): Universal Music Publishing; Blue Mountain Music; Mother Music Label/Catalog Number: Interscope 11362 (CD promo) Source: Billboard Magazine Originally Reviewed: March 05, 2005
Fresh from its Grammy Awards performance of "Sometimes You Can't Make It on Your Own" (not to mention three wins), U2 releases the tender ballad as the third single from its global smash "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb." The cut is already off to a fast start at adult top 40 and modern AC, and certainly modern rock can't be far behind. The song's chorus, sung in Bono's familiar falsetto, is a knockout: "And it's you when I look in the mirror/And it's you when I don't pick up the phone/Sometimes you can't make it on your own." The singer penned the emotional track for his late father, though the sentiment of the cut should hit home with just about anyone with a heart. While it's a no-brainer that rock stations will play this, we hope mainstream top 40 will also come onboard.—KC

I'm starting to like this, even though the Grammy performance was dull.
The studio version is much better.

Mainstream Top 40 will be more likely to feel this, while Alternative stations won't play this with the same feel as with "Vertigo" because it's a slower track and all. Sincerely, Noah Eaton
