Believe it or not, this song is rising steadily up the Hot AC chart. It's currently Top 5 Jump! and Taking Off. WPLJ New York has added it. What the hell?!

In the heydey of teen-pop, HAC barely touched Backsteet Boys, N Sync, etc (I think "I Want It That Way, "Show Me the Meaning..." and "Bye Bye Bye" made Top 20, but that's it). I'm glad they didn't have more success at the format, but it's still odd that this song is having success here & now when its genre is far less popular and at a format that never supported the genre even when it was popular.

Many of their hits were less HAC-friendly than this. ("Bye Bye Bye" went Top 20?? :o) Come to think of it, it's probably only natural that this is picking up here since "On the Way Down" did.

I havoe no clue why this guy is getting so much overplay. The song is way over rated and isn't even as good as most teen pop released in the last decade

It could just be that Hot AC is more receptive now to teen-pop songs, since Pop isn't exactly oversaturated with them like it was at the end of the 90s and 2000.

I think this is a great move for HAC and Jesse. Congrats for him. This will probably peak in the low 17-22 range.
And to say the format never "supported" teen-pop is an oversimplification. No, not a ton of teen-ppop songs made the top 20, but many MANY songs made the top 30 on HAC. Most of Britney's singles and Christina's singles peaked in the 22-25 range on HAC. And let's not forget BBMak's "Back Here", which could be compared to Beautiful Soul as far as target audience and theme, peaked at #13 on HAC.
Plus, people have to realize this - since pop radio has turned toward more RHY/urban artists in the 3-4 years, HAC stations have picked up many former pop-fav acts. This has shifted HAC's playlists toward a younger audience IMO.

IMO this song sounds a bit young-skewing for Hot AC, but what do I know. I never thought they'd pick up on "Complicated" either, if only because older listeners would think Avril sounded young and bratty on it.
I've heard *NSYNC's "It's Gonna Be Me" on Miami's Hot AC station (Coast 97.3), although I use the term Hot AC loosely because they're heavily 80s based and barely play anything from the last year. I don't think they're on the HAC panel, as they shouldn't be.
As for Ryan Cabrera and the Goo Goo Dolls, I heard that John R. (can't spell his last name) did some writing on his album.

John Rzeznik only co-wrote one track on Ryan Cabrera's album ("Illusions"), but he produced the entire album with Ryan.
As for Jesse, isn't he on the WB series "Summerland?" What are the demographics of that show's audience?

I think the song's horrible, but it fits Hot AC fine.

Wait a minute, whatchu talkin' 'bout? This track fits the format perfectly. If you have heard the original album version you'd see why. I did not once consider this to be a straight up rhythmic track. And yeah, it does have some type of Goo Goo Dolls connection based on the instruments and the tempo of the song IMO, really.
