I just noticed that there are only two female artists on the Hot AC Top 20 chart - Kelly Clarkson (twice) and Avril Lavigne. Is this usual for the Hot AC chart?

That's not good! They need to recognize the talents of others like Anna Nalick and such.

I mean, it's usually male-dominated because of the simple fact that HAC plays half solo artists and half bands, while bands are almost always male and solo artists are 50/50. However, there are usually more than just 2 in the Top 20. If you think about it though, all the main HAC females like Sheryl, Sarah, Jewel, Alanis, Dido, etc. don't have new stuff out now. Seems like the perfect time to add Jem's "24" or Natalie Imbruglia's "Shiver" for balance, but I don't see either of those doing anything. >:( It may continue to be this male-dominated til Sheryl Crow's new stuff hits radio late Spring/early Summer.

I agree, the lack of female artists in the top 20 is both noticable and unfortunate. Anna Nalick could be huge if she was promoted more!

I thought Anna Nalik was #18 She is now. Don't think it was there earlier when I posted, or maybe I missed it. Another song called Breathe? Man, can't people get original with song titles? Thanks for your responses. I guess the band thing definitely is skewed toward males. It just seems so unfortunate that females are pretty rare recently. Any other females rising up the chart? Has the Top 20 ever been dominated by females that you can remember?

Has the Top 20 ever been dominated by females that you can remember? No, but it was definitely more balanced during the Lillith Era. Here's a chart from January 1998 for example: 2 3 2 1 SMASH MOUTH Walkin' On The Sun (Interscope Records) 6 6 4 2 MATCHBOX 20 3am (Lava/Atlantic Records) 4 2 1 3 LISA LOEB I Do (Geffen Records) 1 1 3 4 CHUMBAWAMBA Tubthumping (Republic/Universal Records) 3 4 5 5 PAULA COLE I Don't Want To Wait (Imago/WB Records) 5 5 6 6 SUGAR RAY Fly (Lava/Atlantic Records) 14 9 8 7 SARAH MCLACHLAN Sweet Surrender (Arista Records) 8 7 7 8 TONIC If You Could Only See (Polydor/A&M Records) 19 12 9 9 SAVAGE GARDEN Truly Madly Deeply (Columbia Records) 16 10 11 10 BILLIE MYERS Kiss The Rain (Universal Records) 7 8 10 11 SISTER HAZEL All For You (Universal Records) 24 20 14 12 LOREENA MCKENNITT The Mummers' Dance (Quinlan Road/WB) 18 17 13 13 THIRD EYE BLIND How's It Going To Be (Elektra/EEG) -- -- 22 14 CELINE DION My Heart Will Go On (550 Music) 12 14 12 15 ELTON JOHN Something About The Way You...
