Hi guys. This went for adds today I believe (8/30).
This is the first single from "Astronaut", which will be released on October 12th. It is the reunion album featuring all 5 original members. I think it's a great song.

Didn't this already chart months ago? I thought I remember it being on the chart around the same time as Norah Jones' song of the same title.

Hey. Actually there was a dance version that was remixed by Jason Nevins and it was featured on the "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" sdtk. earlier this year.
That version was NOT a single. This new studio version is more of a pop song and it was one of the most added songs this week from what I heard.

Are there any other 80's music fans on this board???
I'm surprised that hardly anyone replied to this thread. I'm excited about the Duran Duran reunion/comeback.
Epic is giving them a big promotion worldwide. The new album is due out on October 12th here in the U.S.

This song is good, it has a really nice feel to it. Too bad it won't find a home at American radio. >:( :( In Europe, it's a different story! #11 debut in Italian airplay this week!

I think it's their best 1st single from a new album since "Ordinary World" in 1993.
That hit #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Followup single "Come Undone" reached #7 the same year. This was the last time Duran Duran hit the Top 40 on the singles chart.

Actually the last time that Duran Duran had a Top 40 hit was in 1997 with "Electric Barbarella". It hit #29.

I'm really surprised at how well this song is doing on HOT AC, maybe because older artist don't seem to do to good anymore.
I'm glad this song is doing well and I hope it makes Top 10- which will be proof with a little promotion a old artist can still have big hits!

I think the Tears For Fears song Call Me Mellow was far more deserving of airplay, as far as veteran artists go.

I really like the verses but the chorus is terrible.

If we are talking Billboard charts, Electric Barbarella failed to reach the top 40 in 1997. I think it peaked at 45 or 47. (I have Billboard's Top 40 book which was published in 2000).
"Sunrise" will be released as a CD single on September 28th with a non-album track. This of course will help it chart better.

With such minimal airplay, even a CD single is very unlikely to get this song on the Hot 100.

This appears to be doing just fine on Hot AC right now. It's already in the top 30 and is currently among the greatest gainers. Why is everyone acting like it's doing absolutely nothing?

If you're getting that feeling from me, it still doesn't matter because Top 30 at Hot AC is not going to get this on the Hot 100 and that's all I was responding to.

I disagree with you Rebirth.
Dude, even those American Idols who got NO AIRPLAY charted because there was a commercial single available. From what I undertand Duran Duran are getting a lot of airplay, and I think the Top 40 stations will jump on it too. VH1 just added their video.
Their new album is still a few weeks away, and I see them getting even more exposure.

Well I'm going to have to disagree with you because those American Idol singles were selling hundreds of thousands of copies. If this single sells hundreds of thousands of copies, I will be floored.

Apparently you don't like them or their song, so let's move on. Lots of people do though.
For instance I don't like Sarah Mclaughlin, so I did not post a reply to that looooooong thread going on about her new song. Peace.

I'm providing you with information since you seem to be uninformed on the state of single sales. I never said I hated Duran Duran. Calm down. You can ask anyone on this board if they think the "Sunrise" single will sell over 100,000 copies. Unless they're lying to you, they'd laugh. I promise.

I really like "Sunrise" but Rebirth is right, there'sno way it can sell enough to make the Hot 100.... or even get enough airplay to make it unless it goes Top 5 at HAC, which won't happen.

That's cool, but you know what?
If awful songs like Juvenile's "Slow Motion" and Ciara's "Goodies" can make #1, I've lost all respect with Billboard. These songs are not crossover material to me.
What's sad to me is that these radio programmers think that ALL Hip Hop/Rap singles are good. WRONG!
I think Nelly has had some catchy singles, so he's deserving of his success. For the record, I love R&B, but not Rap. Anita Baker and Teena Marie won't get the airplay that they deserve either. Alicia Keys will never be in their league.
When did the Hot 100 become so anti-pop?

I think the Tears For Fears song Call Me Mellow was far more deserving of airplay, as far as veteran artists go. I agree, but for what it's worth "Call Me Mellow" is doing surprisingly well. I heard on KMTT that the band basically had to put the album out and promote the single themselves since they were going to release it on Arista when it went ka-put. It's HAC Top 40 and made AAA N&A (I know, not worth much--but at least it's doing something!)

"Sunrise" is up from #23 last week to #19 this week on the R&R Hot AC chart.

call me crazy but i don't think it's out of this world to see "Sunrise" make the Hot 100. It's going 4 adds at POP in Oct. It's already got 100 spins at Pop now. I'm not saying it will be huge at Pop but i do think whatever it does with being a Top 10 Hot & Modern AC Hit with good exposure on VH1 could put this in the Hot 100 even if 100, lol :) But even if it doesn't, can you honestly say the Hot 100 represents what you actually hear on your local hit stations like it did in the 80's?

From Billboard News regarding UK singles chart:
The retooled Duran Duran's "(Reach Up for the) Sunrise" (Epic) opened at No. 5, giving the band its first U.K. top 10 hit since "Ordinary World" reached No.6 in 1993, and its highest ranking since "A View to a Kill" hit No. 2 in 1985. It's Duran Duran's 14th top 10 hit overall.

Well, it's as good a time as ever to make a comeback. With everything 80s making a comeback, now is the chance to strike while the getting's good. This song should be a modest hit at Hot AC peaking at #13-#15. At POP, I don't see it peaking higher than #70. But it would be nice if it does better, great pop song.

Question: Which mix are a number of radio stations playing? Last spring I played the dance version and it reached number 8 on my charts, it's a heck of a lot better than the original. I personally do not see Duran Duran getting their first top 40 hit in eleven years here in the USA. For the record, I do not dislike Duran Duran, however once again I do not see them cracking the top 40, if they do it will be one of the year's huge surprises.
