With the surprising longevity of their first single "Our Lives" on Hot AC, I guess the record company is ready to take a second stab at Hot AC radio with this new track. I wonder if this will perform as well or better than "Our Lives".

Doubt it.
The Calling just don't have it in them to be a long-lasting artist. They already have lost 3/5 of their original members, and their album sales are lackluster.
They'll be cursed to the same fate as Sister Hazel and Vertical Horizon.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

What makes the song's longevity "surprising"? The song is Hot AC-friendly enough to be in the top 10 IMO.

It's not often that songs spend 20 weeks on the Hot AC chart and not make the top 15 at least. That is my point. The song has just hung around the bottom part of the top 20 for a very long time. Usually songs either rise to the top 10 and fall or scrape the top 20 and then fall off naturally.

remember the days when a good song was just a good song and a hit was a hit not because it was #11, #14, #17 spent 21 weeks or 37, who give a hoot about analyzing a song to pieces. Either it's a hit or it's not and it seems to me i hear 3 times a day on local hot ac stations for the past few months , so it is!!! Leave it be, timing is everything just like Box Office success, release the song during a dry stale period maybe it is a top 10 who knows who cares, it's the audience who counts....... This reply in no means is meant to be mean or to stir anything up, i'm just an old timer type programmer who gets sick of seeing songs get picked apart when there can only be 10 songs in the top 10 not 20, that's why they made a top 20 if top 20 wasn't a hit they'd just count down the top 10. I remember last year someone on the pop message boards picking Matchbox Twenty's Unwell to death, It won't chart with a banjo, it won't hit top 30, it won't go top 20, top 10, ok it's #3 but with alot less spins than 'If You're Gone" had in 2001, it's a odd #3. Who cares they were all wrong, it one some awards, nominated for a grammy, went #1 at Hot Ac for ages, and wound the #2 song of 2003 across all formats. Does anyone else see the picking of songs and over analyzing of songs to death here but me......... Don't curse em'...

I like this, but it's not evewhat "Our Lives" was so there's no way this will impact.

Something about this band just annoys me. Now that I think about it, it's their lead singer. I don't know why, but he just seems real pompous or self-rightous or something.
"Adrienne" was the best single I've heard by The Calling. Other than that, they're stuff hasn't really been great.

Billboard Review
The Calling is practically frolicking on "Anything," a highly spirited, thoroughly positive midtempo romp that could lift the spirits of a storm cloud. In fact, the only thing that keeps this track from being pure, unadulterated pop is the credible, rock-studded voice of Alex Band and enough wrist-breaking percussion to keep Radio Disney at bay. Hey, there's nothing wrong with writing accessible music; this song is expertly crafted, eminently singable ("Whatever you want/Whatever you need/Whatever it takes/I'll do anything") and a crisp musical breath of fresh air. With this played beside Bowling for Soup's "1985," adult top 40 will be having more fun than anyone else on the dial.βCT

Most added at Hot AC this week, with 15 adds. It's also #4 in New & Active, with 8 spins. Uhh...

I just find it humorous that a song that only has 8 spins for the entire week ranks at #4 in N&A simply because it's been added (on paper) to 10+% of the panel, whereas other songs with more spins that actually got real airplay on more stations than "Anything" don't qualify.Β :)

I agree too. "Adrienne" is their highest peaking song on my personal chart. It still didn't make it that high though. I think it peaked around #26.

I also think "Adrienne" is their best single. I also liked "Wherever You Will Go" before it reached overkill, and thought "Our Lives" wasn't all that bad and actually deserved a little more than it got. I haven't heard "Anything" yet.
