I think we can prepare for another monster debut on Triple A, perhaps among the +250 to +300 type of debut R.E.M continues to pull off with a lead single, with this latest from U2, which is all but certain to hit #1.
Hot AC is a bit more of a mystery, though with so many Adds coming off the bat for "Vertigo" at Hot AC, it's all but certain to at least touch the Top 20 again.
Predictions:
Triple A: #1 Hot AC: #12
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I just heard it this evening, and I'll venture to say that it won't hit #1. It'll debut pretty high, but I think it'll stop around #5. It's kind of like a cross between Discotheque and Elevation; it'll probably be too heavy for high rotation in most AAA stations (and I'm not sure how counting 1-2-3-14 in Spanish at the beginning is going to help), but since it's U2 they'll have to give it overnight spins, at least. I think it could do surprisingly well on Alternative though, since that format has been warming towards real alternative, and established artists.

I think 14 is a reference to the # of albums U2 has had.

"Where Are We Runnin'" was a heavier rocker for Lenny Kravitz, and he fell just short of #1 on AAA (he actually was #1 mid-week) In comparison, U2 is a far more established artist than Kravitz is, and, like R.E.M, just about anything they release to Triple A will hit. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I see where you're coming from with the WAWR comparison, but I still think those are different circumstances. "Where Are We Runnin'" was more of a lighthearted pop-rock song. "Vertigo" is more suited for Alternative. Also, just because an artist is as established as U2 or REM is doesn't mean they will automatically get to #1 -- I'd say that Sting is just as established as those two but "Send Your Love" was the lead single from a new album but still only peaked at around #6 (I think). I think that song's problem was that it was too dancy for Triple A.

I think that song's problem was that it was too dancy for Triple A. I see what you mean with Sting, though I simply think it wasn't a very catchy single to begin with. The whole album, in fact, is not radio-friendly in comparison to "Brand New Day" Judging that U2 has gained 100 spins in a single day, their bullet may even surpass +300 for "Vertigo" before the single is out for a whole week officially. The thing with U2 is they're a staple on both Alternative and Adult Alternative. You'll hear softer, less Alternative single recurrents like "Desire" on Alternative and more Alternative recurrents like "Bullet The Blue Sky" on Triple A. They're an all-encompassing rock band. U2 has shown diversity and range through over 25 years and all at once it is branded as their signature sound. "Vertigo" sounds U2 so therefore, it'll reach the ears of any Rock format. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I expected something a little more serious from U2, but this song is awesome anyway. Great to hear more rock from U2 instead of the wimpy pop they've begun to swing toward (all the singles from the last album were okay, but none of them were big with me).

I don't think this will hit #1 at AAA. I see it too hard. It will stop just behind R.e.M. and Mark Knofler

As it is, it has already surged to #12 AND gained about 115 spins since Saturday. ALREADY a +268 bullet. I don't know, this is a speeding train of a single and I think will inevitably hit the top no matter what. It's already only 57 spins behind Knopfler as it is. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

U2 did not disappoint with this first single! It gets better with each listen.

2 U2 Vertigo 531 0 531 3.157
There's no questioning now this will indeed hit #1 on AAA.
Not suprised at all either, simply because it's U2 AND it's a lead single, regardless of its heavier sound.
In fact, it may hit #1 TOMORROW.
Also, don't be suprised if it has a lengthy run on top, perhaps the longest since "Clocks" became a Triple A classic for Coldplay.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Yeah, but are they playing it because it's good, or are they playing it just because it's U2??? Something to think about.
I have yet to hear it, but I did not like anything from their last album. U2 lost me in the early 90's.

Here is a link to the video. Not sure if this is the official one or not: www.u2exit.com/htdaab/vertigo.shtml Here is a pic of the album cover from some website that I found. It says it is from Amazon. com. www.atu2.com/view.html?/files/bits/1/521.jpgWhen I sing this song to myself, I keep morphing from "Vertigo" into "Keep Me Hanging On" by the Surpremes. Don't know where that's coming from. ??? Hello, Hello {Hola!} I'm at a place called vertigo (¿Dónde está?) But you don't really love me You just keep me hanging on.

- 1 U2 Vertigo 635 0 635 3.649 1 2 R.E.M. Leaving New York 625 632 -7 2.545
U2 officially has a lock on the next Triple A #1!
We'll have to see how high "Vertigo" could go in total spins in a single week, plus how long it can stay on top of the chart (I'm guessing seven to eight weeks)
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

The one R&R uses still shows them at #2. Still, it's pretty obvious they'll be #1, probably this week.

It corrected since you replied. When I made that post, "Leaving New York" was #1 and "Vertigo" was nowhere to be found.

Vertigo won't stay more than 3 weeks on top, too hard for the format I'm not an expert when it comes to Triple A, but it sounds really weird hearing someone say this song is too HARD for the format so it will only be the biggest HIT there #1 3 weeks in a row, It's way too hard for 4. These posts make my day when I read them, i know they are meant to come off witty but they come off like stat GEEKS who know more about stats than actual radio & programming.

Yes, we are geeks...what are you going to do about it? When it comes to radio and music i'm a walking talking encyclopedia geek myself. I've been nick named Casey Casem Jr. in my hometown. My post above in no way meant to make fun of anyone. But even when I do get frustrated at these posts it's in the same way you get frustrated at my last post. But if you can ever find me making fun or analyzing any piece of art written from someones heart and soul to pieces and numbers rather than it's gonna be and hit and that's all, If you can find me one time doing that, please do. I might speak out against posts but never music. Even Mary Conroy of Atlantic Records said I had a passion for music she'd never seen when we talked. I talk and meet alot of Program Director's,Record Exec's..etc. All from running a small internet radio station called Ultra Mix Radio www.ultramixradio.com I've had stints at real fm's but my passion is to one day have something better that's free and world wide that isn't bounded by chart positions. That is why I get mad because it's personal. And being into it as long as I have I see timing, promotion,do all the stations impact at once or is half the panel adding it after the bullet, all this stat crap hurts peak position. So what I do is say It sounds like a Top 10 so even if it falls short, It's still a hit & a great song. I see alot of those 11-30 songs on the Hot AC chart pull great requests night after night. Like for instance Five For Fighting "Jane Says (Devil In The Wising Well)" which was #1 equested Tuesday night but only peaked at #21 or #22 on the Hot AC chart. Still a hit to me. But in closing sorry I called anyone geeks,I'm one too in a sense when it comes to radio.

Vertigo is now at #2 with a LOSS of its bullet on AAA. Looks like #1 is falling further away from the band.

Vertigo is really growing on me. Though I really dislike the ending "yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...........". Seems kind of lazy songwriting. But I love singing along to the beginning of the song.
