Anyone here noticing that a few hot AC stations have started playing all xmas music now? Noticibly, WVMX in cincinnati, and WALC in charleston. Anyone elses? One of the stations in milwaukee did last year too, but the day before thanksgiving they went 100% xmas, so they could claim they beat the AC station (which has since gone all 80s :)). I'm realistically thinking that we could see a couple of the songs chart on BB's adult AC chart, since it seems more and more hot ac stations are picking up xmas music the last few years. Anyone else's thoughts? To me, it's 3 weeks too early. I don't get in the mood til the friday after thanksgiving or [glow=green,2,300]at [/glow][glow=red,2,300]least[/glow] [glow=green,2,300]til[/glow] [glow=red,2,300]it [/glow][glow=green,2,300]snows![/glow] That's my 2 cents worth, anyone else want to comment? Mike

I agree that right around Thanksgiving is the best time for the switch. Right now is still way too early.

I just took a survey on Ratethemusic.com on Christmas music by rock stars. I was surprised how many artists have recored Christmas songs -- Coldplay, U2, Simple Plan, Sugar Ray, Jon Bon Jovi, BNL, Rob Thomas, Smashmouth, Ben Folds Five, etc.

The thing about rock-edged Christmas music is, you don't get to hear much of it because the stations that play holiday songs in heavy rotation tend to be AC-leaning. Meanwhile, a station whose format is more suitable for rock music will is only going to play a small handful of Christmas songs per day.

But artists NORTHCOAST named like Simple Plan, Sugar Ray, Rob Thomas, and Smash Mouth are more AC/Hot AC/CHR-Pop than Alternative/Active Rock/Rock. We aren't talking about Christmas music by Godsmack, Korn, or Metallica.

We aren't talking about Christmas music by Godsmack, Korn, or Metallica. That would be fun to hear, though.

KMYI in San Diego went all-Christmas last year. Not sure about this year.

We aren't talking about Christmas music by Godsmack, Korn, or Metallica. That is very true, and I didn't mean to mislabel those artists with my earlier comments. But the fact remains that Christmas songs by those artists you listed are largely ignored by AC stations. The formats that usually play them are the same formats that play minimal amounts of holiday music as a rule, hence we don't get to hear them very often.

The Hot AC station here has switched to all-Christmas already... they're even playing the Christmas edition of the John Tesh show... This is way too early, Thanksgiving is even way too early. If they want to do all-Christmas, flipping a week ahead of time should be sufficient and that might even be too early. Also I'm disappointed 'coz they were the station that plays the 90s version of Backtrax USA and now I won't hear it until I get back in the spring.
