I like it. His Grammy win could help this a little bit, but I don't see it cracking the Top 20 on Hot AC. Too many people remember him for the mullet.

I'm usually a lurker now and then but I have a question regard this song since I am a fan of Richard.
Is this song DOA? The official release date for the song was the 18th, same as "Rescue" by Uncle Kracker. It was added to 17 stations its first week but only 3 the second week. I see at least "Rescue" is making some sort of impact, unlike "When You're Gone".

There was a Rate the Music survey on this song last week. It was a totally blind survey. No mention of the artist. I knew it was Richard Marx because I had read about the release of that single. His voice sounded familiar, but a bit more gravelly than before. I gave it a so-so rating. But always like a good comeback story. Hope he does well with it. Such a talented songwriter over the years!

I thinkthis will do fairly well. It's more Hot AC friendly than Phil Collins "Can't Stop Loving You" which i also loved, which spent alot of weeks in the 30-40 spot on the Adult Top 40 survey. I think this can go Top 25.
Yes, people may remember his mullet but who cares he's a good pop/rock singer/songwriter. He had hits all the way til' like 1997. I remember he had that one "At The Beginning" with Donna lewis and he had "Until I Find You Again" in 97 I believe and in 2002 he hit the AC chart with "Days In Avalon". So he is pretty established, it's not like Devo coming back,LOL

Looks like I spoke to soon. It's making a recovery the third week out. I'm glad about that. I didn't want to see a good song go to waste. ;)
Oh, and "Days In Avalon" was 2000. However, thanks for even remembering it.

RICHARD MARX When You're Gone Producer(s): Richard Marx, David Cole Writer(s): R. Marx Publisher(s): Chi-Boy Music c/o Wixen Genre: POP Label/Catalog Number: Manhattan/EMI 070876 18252 (CD promo) Source: Billboard Magazine Originally Reviewed: June 12, 2004
Richard Marx has never slowed down as a singer, songwriter and producer. But it took his song of the year Grammy Award win for Luther Vandross' "Dance With My Father" to remind radio that he's still got the goods. "When You're Gone" is as fresh as green grass: It rocks with freewheeling gusto, sketches a meaningful lyrical portrait of creeping insecurity and is a melodic ice cream cone (featuring a gutsy guitar solo from Keith Urban). In his latter hitmaking days, Marx was painted into a corner as a soft balladeer. "Gone" will remind adult top 40 listeners of his breakthrough "Don't Mean Nothing," with all the potential to turn the page on a bold new chapter for this timeless artist. And this is just a hint of the versatile, full-length "My Own Best Enemy," out in August. Bulls-eye.—CT
