Now at #1 at Triple A, is this going for Hot AC adds (or did it already?). This song has grown on me a lot and I can't get enough of it right now. While I doubt it would do anything big at HAC, I'm sure it could garner a few extra spins for the song.

Don't think it's going to be very big on the chart though. It just doesn't sound good on the radio. Despite being a DMB fan, I can't get into Dave Matthews's solo stuff at all.

I really like this song and his solo album. The Gravedigger song is kinda morbid, but very catchy. I immediately want to turn it off because I'm kinda superstitious, but it is such a powerful song. Really like Oh too. I was surprised by so many Dave fans saying they don't like the solo album. I was pleasantly surprised by it. Glad to see Oh is doing well on Triple A. Hope I hear it on my Hot AC station. Gonna request it. Gotta love Dave! You know, I was listening to David Gray the other day, and thought that I heard a resemblence between him and Dave. Anyone think they have the same type of songs sometimes?

I love the song "Oh" but it is not the best single choice at all from "Some Devil".
"So Damn Lucky" could have easily been a smash for instance. Maybe not in the league of recent hits like "Where Are You Going", "The Space Between" and "Crush" but Dave could have gotten his first Hot AC Top 20 appearance as a solo artist with this.
"Oh" has a great acoustic blend to it but it doesn't really stand out as far as tempo is concerned. Other than Dave's loyal audience, no one else will necessarily feel this.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Anyone think they have the same type of songs sometimes? David Gray is incredible. One of my favorite songwriters out there. The thing about David Gray is he is so distinct. His voice especially is the only original. When you hear his vocals, you immediately know it's him but yet you're still enthralled, with his Dylanesque lyrics soothing out. David's pretty diverse too. He started out with an angry, raspy voice in his songwriting, especially off "Flesh". His first release was particularly reflective, the second all about passion and desire. Then "Sell Sell Sell" leans more politically and has a spiritual edge to it. By the time you get to "The Lost Songs", the songs he wrote between "Sell Sell Sell" and "White Ladder", there you see a great maturity. "Flame Turns Blue" is quite possibly the best song he's written yet, and let's not forget this is the time David almost gave up failing to make a breakthrough. Yet he sounds more relaxed than ever, and I think this new mood he carried on is what helped him become a success, which he personified with "White Ladder" and has continued to use with "A New Day At Midnight". So actually I have to say that indeed David and Dave have their resemblance but, in fact, I think they have matured in fairly opposite ways. Dave Matthews started out writing with a lot of hope and joy, but each album he's looked more depressed than ever, while David Gray only seems to look happier. In other words, Dave has went from crooning of his yellow flame dancing to begging the gravedigger to make his grave shallow, while David has went from dancing to the same drum angrily to letting go his mind and head. Still, it is the same kind of maturity, as they have proven they can tackle various emotions in stages. Anyway, they're both great songwriters (David Gray the better lyricist, Dave Matthews the better guitarist) Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I have no idea why the man went solo. His radio solo songs sound like something he could have easily done with his band anyways...
I listened to Gravedigger and Save Me with some open mindedness, but was just horrified at how DMBish they sounded. I have a feeling this one will be no different...

I think I read that Dave offered these songs up to the Band, but they weren't "into" them. As an artist, he felt he needed to record these songs, so he went solo with them. Anymore with technology the way it is, why not record as much as they want. Some of these guys live and breathe music and need an outlet.

Listened first to A New Day at Midnight and moved onto White Ladder (I'm going in reverse, I know. LOL!). He has a beautiful, unique voice. Don't know too much about Dave and David's personalities, so the insight into how their music has changed over the years is quite interesting to me. Did anyone see Dave Matthews on the Today Show a few months back. He performed Gravedigger and Some Devil. I was floored by his performance of Some Devil. What an interesting singer to WATCH as he sings. His facial expressions are so interesting. The song was so neat. I had never heard it before. When I got the album I heard the song and immediately thought "that's the song!". What's the concensus of the DMB fans about the solo album? A co-worker who is really into DMB hates the solo CD. So, I was pleasantly surprised when I heard it.

It's shy of the first four Dave Matthews Band albums as far as quality and originality is concerned, but it is far better than the awful "Everyday" and the fairly lethargic "Busted Stuff". "So Damn Lucky" is THE song off the album. "Dodo" and their current single are also great. Sincerely, Noah Eaton
