"I'm Still Here" went Top 20 at Hot AC so i'm wondering why no 2nd single. If you wait this long it can't be good......

Something tells me Vertical Horizon may be hanging up the coat on radio success...
The group broke through pop and Hot AC radio at a great time - a time when stations were very open to slow rock tunes to complement their "boyband/solo teenage girl/Latin invasion" dominated playlists. When "Everything You Want" entered the scene, it was seen as the perfect way to soften those playlists, especially since it made a return to the mid-late 90s type music that propelled pop stations to high levels.
However, after that, pop radio pretty much gave up on the so-called "Hot AC" type music and turned their playlists to RHY/Urban. This basically shunned artists like Goo Goo Dolls, Sugar Ray, Sister Hazel, and Vertical Horizon (as examples) from pop radio as these songs could not be successfully molded in for a long time a la "Iris" or "Everything You Want".
This banishment from pop radio meant Vertical Horizon had to rely on their most popular format to help them - Hot AC. Unfortunately for them, (1) "I'm Still Here" was not a strong single to begin with, and since this group is nowhere near the status of matchbox twenty or Goo Goo Dolls on this format, that was trouble already; (2) 3 top 10 singles from their first album still receive very decent airplay and are proven audience pleasers. Hot AC MDs were most likely not ready to pull airtime from those to try out a mediocre new single; and finally (3) Vertical Horizon's comeback was at a bad time. Pop and Hot AC have been in some form of transition for over a year now, with more noticeable movements by pop stations recently to welcome back "poppy" music as well as the Hot AC ballads/upbeat rock songs. Meanwhile, Hot AC stations were trying to pick up the slack for pop radios ignorance to the true "pop" music and so filled their playlists with that type of music, thus limiting airtime for VH's return.
Based on these factors and as you mentioned that it has been SO long since their first single, I think we can expect not to have new material from VH from this album at least.

"Everything you want" wasn't their first album. It was their 4th album (3rd studio album). But anyway, if as now there is no new single, there won't be a new single. The only thing I've notice is that www.alternativeaddiction.com pushed "When You Cry" (as the 2nd single) and "Forever" (as the 3rd)... "Forever" would have been a great choice for the 1st single instead of "I'm Still Here"

yeah, i am pretty dissapointed about the downfall of Vertical Horizon, especially with the success of their last album.

Well, it did take Live quite a while to decide to release a second single off "Birds of Pray".
But, this has taken just way too long. It is pointless to keep promoting "Go" now. Vertical Horizon have been squeezed under the radar and a first single performance of a minimal Top 20 showing reveals a fatal strain to this band's commerical future.
They should have released "Forever" over four months ago.

right on the money as usual Noah, I wish we had your intake for the Pulse Supersar Idol, but hey, not all wishes can come true. You're right, and I apologize! It was nothing personal, by the way. I'm really not into that American Idol phenomenon and I guess I mistakingly judged the title of the thread as some of the syndicated hype. I'll be sure to participate next time when the time permits. Sincerely, Noah Eaton
