What I believe now is that they should not release a fourth single from the album unless they release that or "All I Need" immediately.
matchbox fans could get their fix instead with the release of "Satellite" from the Dirty Dancing 2: Havana Nights soundtrack, who Rob Thomas wrote the song but does not perform.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

CANCELLEDAll Access removed it from the adds list. there you go then. No more singles from this album. It doesn't really need anymore anyway.

It's actually listed at All Access as going for adds Feb. 16 (which was this past Monday), so we should see how many adds it got when R&R updates this afternoon.

Has it been cancelled for sure? It wasn't canceled. Josh was wrong. It was most added at Hot AC this week.

"Downfall" isn't doing so bad off the bat, though its bullet isn't anything like the +500 ones "Unwell" and "Bright Lights" endured at impact.
I think "Downfall" could go Top 20, but likely won't go beyond the Top 15.

The more I hear this song, the more I like it. It is a grower on you and I hope it can outpeak "Last Beautiful Girl" at least on Hot AC. Of course, it's pop appeal is certainly in question.

Absolutely agree. I've heard many believe "Downfall" is not radio-friendly, but I believe it is radio-friendly enough. Sure, there's that slow part after the gospel bridge, but the beginning leaps right into the song at mid-tempo and the ending of the song especially is charged with the gospel and rock sound combined and Rob's passionate vocals, "I'm coming home...oh oh oh!". It is quite gripping really. I truly believe matchbox twenty chose to release this just to aim for diversification of their radio singles. Quality indeed works, and I am glad they released this instead of the obvious single "All I Need", which is a mediocre track. At the rate its climbing, this has a good chance to at least touch the Top 20. I believe it can outpeak "Last Beautiful Girl", likely between the positions of #14-#18. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I feel the same; when I first heard the album, it didn't really stand out as an obvious single, but now I'm appreciating it more. Hopefully it can do well.

Anyone know how Downfall is doing on the charts? Have yet to hear it on the radio. Would love to see this song live with a full choir!

From what I've heard, there won't be a video for "Downfall" so this single will obviously get limited play.
However, it is a good chance in at least outpeaking "Last Beautiful Girl". They'll have to wrestle with 3 Doors Down, Nelly Furtado, and Seal for the most coveted entry into the Top 20, but with Jason Mraz losing rapidly and Train and Fuel nearing time to go recurrent, they'll hang in there.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I e-mailed a local radio DJ asking when Downfall would start playing. Her e-mail response said "Not sure, record company has pushed back the impact date". Anyone know exactly what an impact date is??
Thanks!

Thanks! The impact date is the day/week that promotion of the song begins and the song is sent out to radio stations. I'm not sure why they would say the impact date has been pushed back, because I've already heard the song about three times on my Hot AC station. And I probably listen to that station 30 minutes or less a day.

Any update on how Downfall is doing? I finally did hear it on Sunday on a large HotAC station in Lexington Ky.

I believe it's currently at #32 with a +99 bullet or so.
Certainly not nearly as strong of a start as their preceding three singles yet with only 35 stations so far not shabby for a single without a video and being a fourth single.

"Downfall" is now at #28 with a bullet around +50.
Definitely slower than their preceding singles but if they keep getting Adds, it should keep climbing.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Things are not looking good for Downfall right now on Hot AC. It's not in the top 20 of greatest gainers nor has it received any new adds. Could this be the first MB20 single that charts on Hot AC and fails to hit the top 20?

I'm not even sure what the purpose of releasing this song was. I mean, I love the song...but it has to be one of the top 3 most radio un-friendly songs on the album, despite being one of the better tracks..
They should have gone with "All I Need" like they did in Australia, a single that made it to the upper 30's (lower 20's) on their sales chart. That would have at least done as well as "Last Beautiful Girl..."

I think they just tossed this song to HotAC to sell a few more records. If it hit, great, if not oh well. Also, with Rob's solo album coming out within the next year, I really think that Atlantic Records would be smart to let radio cool a bit. They will be hungrier for Rob's single when it comes out. Really, I was kind of surprised that they even released a 4th single. The album has really sold all that it's going to sale. However, I still thought that HotAC would play Downfall more than it is. But keep in mind that MB20/Rob has to be saturating many HotAC stations. For instance, today alone I heard Back To Good, Bright Lights, Mad Season, Push, and Smooth from 7:30-4:00 on my HotAC station in Kentucky. A radio station just really can't play more than that from the same artist. I also think that radio may be giving some of their "band" spins to the up and coming Maroon5.

How is the new single Downfall doing? I haven't heard it yet on my Hot AC station & I listen all day at work. I've heard some people say that it is doing really well in their cities. I e-mailed the PD of my station and he replied that it was a bit too early for this song because Unwell & Bright Lights were still getting lots of requests. Anyone know where it is on the charts? Are you hearing it on your stations?

It currently has a +70 gain on Hot AC and should be either #30 or #31 this week.

My station added Downfall last week. I've heard it about 4-5 times during the day now which is really good. This station does not overplay songs. I was glad they added it. However, since their album has dropped off the Billboard Top 200 (Music News section), I doubt it will do much. Again, I think Atlantic needs to put some separation between this song and Rob's first solo release (sometime in the Fall(?)).
