Look at its playlist this week: www.mmr247.com/mmrweb/AllAccess/stations.asp?c_let=KYSR-FMAbout the only Hot AC songs on this chart are "Apologize", "Wake Up Call" and "How to Save a Life". Practically everything else could be played on an Alternative station. Are "Bleed It Out" and "Psycho" really Hot AC songs? I can't believe this is the station John used to complain about for being too stale...lol.

CC entirely changed their format (to the tune of a 30% ratings loss) and they made KBIG a slightly poppier, but less current-heavy version of the old KYSR (FYI, KBIG went from a 1.7 to a 2.0 in the latest ratings)...

If I remember correctly, KOSO is even more alternative heavy. They're actually a rock station in disguise. And I think they report to Hot AC.

I love HotAC stations that lean more alternative than pop but this station is certainly not HotAC.

Wow just looked up KOSO...this combination Alternative/Triple A thing might be a new phase in radio - It's almost like "Hot Triple A" lol...IMO if these stations become a trend, thinkin they should report to the Triple A panel, even though they're much heavier on currents (40-50x a week top rotation)

WBOS in Boston just flipped to a Triple A/Alternative hybird, much like Radio 104.5 in Philly. As long as this hybird format embraces the current model of tight playlists and a lack of local personalities, I don't see it thriving.

104.1 in Hartford recently switched to what I'd call "classic alternative," playing mostly 90's with some alternative and Triple-A currents thrown in such as Modest Mouse, Gomez, Jack Johnson. I've always thought a hybrid like this would sound great; Hopefully it will catch on.

Since 90's Alternative and Triple A are closely related, I'd love to see modern Triple A artists (Jack Johnson, Pete Yorn, Modest Mouse, Norah Jones, etc.) programmed with 90s alternative. My dial would not change.

Yeah def. see Triple A listeners not likin Puddle Of Mudd and Paramore, but Alternative listeners likin Ingrid Michaelson and Sara Bareilles seems even more out-of-place IMO But IMO callin these "Triple A/Alternative hybrids" Hot AC is ridiculous IMO cause they have absolutely no resemblence to AC at all (most prob share about 5% of their music with their local mainstream AC station) Ironically, WBOS/Boston I'm almost sure was one of the first Triple A stations in the country, and basically invented the format (I think)...so maybe it's the Triple A format itself that's changing, now that there are less new releases by Eric Clapton, Bruce Hornsby, etc.

The problem is, Triple A stations that focus on Neil Young, Van Morrisson, and Bruce Springsteen have audiences that aren't getting any younger. This especially holds true for AAA stations that center around jazz. So, the format must evolve into something that better suits younger audiences for years to come. That's why I am a huge proponent of a format that would mix Dave Matthews, The Wallflowers, Better Than Ezra, Collective Soul, The Cranberries, Alanis, Counting Crows, etc. with Modest Mouse, Pete Yorn, Sara Bareilles, Ingrid Michaelson, Norah Jones, The Strokes, Interpol, Arcade Fire, Paolo Nutini, etc. 90's Alternative + Modern Indie Rock. The key is to fight the ongoing problem of tight playlists. Defensive programming has stunted radio for the past decade, and a format such as this one would thrive with a huge library.

^Triple A is definitely growing (new stations in D. C., Atlanta, and now N. Y. C.), and I def. think it's headed in an Alternative direction - Springsteen is really the only baby-boomer artist that's still recording (and Paul McCartney, and maybe John Melloncamp not sure), and don't think much more is comin from these artists...meanwhile, Hot AC is kinda rejecting cuts from Snow Patrol, Death Cab For Cutie, Augustana, Foo Fighters, and Modest Mouse, many of which have really high callout among wealthier 20-30 somethin listeners
Thinkin these bands (along with the Fray, Dave Matthews, Colbie, etc.) may becoming the new "core" Triple A artists that are essentially creating these new stations, and causing other Triple A's to lean more and more towards Alternative

Triple A relies on knowledge about music, and less about what Paris Hilton is up to. Maybe now I'll actually have a better chance of getting a job in radio with the expansion of Triple A
